Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Bill, like you, I am involved with NVGenWeb. I CC both Churchill and Pershing
counties. Pat Scott adopted out Storey to me today. I do not need to be the NV SC to
have an interest in NVGenWeb. Being a NVGenWeb CC is reason enough.

We have four volunteers to count votes!!! They are not from Nevada!
You will be notified of the addy to vote and please vote. This is your state!!!

Actually Bill, I filed a grievance against Bettie Wood for conflict of interest. NC
Scott Burow inadvertently posted it to the Board list when he replied to the
grievance. He is trying to have it removed as we speak. This URL will probably die
very soon, as soon as he can get RootsWeb to jump for him. <vbg>

As for running for NV SC, not me. I am deeply involved with TNGenWeb. I am the ASC
and webmaster there. The TN SC has health issues, as I do. So in TN, we work as a
team - always there to help each other. Once we get through this NV election deal,
perhaps we can look at a few painless ways to make NVGenWeb even better -- just a dash
or two of teamwork would help.
As for my muddling up the works, I try to reserve that for the NC and AB, they are
always in need of comeuppance and some muddling. ;-)

So far we have two candidates for SC: Robert bremer and Lourigne Gimay. Any others interested in the position need to let me know ASAP.

If we had a candidate we could just do a roll call vote couldn't we?
Is Fred Smoot volunteering to take over the State or just muddle up the
workings?
If he is I vote for Fred :o)

The bylaws call for it Fred, but if you want to file a grievance over us
doing our job, please feel free to do so. If you need the addresses to
do so, they can be found at:
http://www.usgenweb.com/about/advisoryboard.shtml
Meanwhile, I have set up a web site for the election, but am waiting on
approval of the timeline from the rest of the folks that will be working
with me on this.

If an election is required per bylaws, I think we could keep it fairly
simple. A couple of volunteer vote counters from among the CCs might be
all that is needed. That was the way it was handled in other states
I've participated in.

Fred may be right in principle in the things he has brought up, but let's
recognize too that we are not talking about a plethora of candidates here
either. If Pat invited Bettie to lend a hand procedurally, and Bettie is
showing such flexibility (and no apparent vested interests), I have no
problem with her asking if the list cares to forego an election in the name
of expediency. It comes back to what BC mentioned earlier (at least as I see
it): what's the point in having an election if we have only one candidate?
That said, I am perfectly content to go along with whatever the CC's feel is
best. ;)

We never had the problem before is that the previous SC just left, abandoned
the site. I was the only one that was willing to take it over. That is why
we didn't have a process in place.
I will now call for a roll call from all Nevada CCs and input for an
election proceure.

Hi Bettie,
Thanks for helping get the process together for NVGEN.
It makes sense to me to have an election only if there is more than one
nomination.
I am sorry for the delayed response. Hubby and I were out fishing and
camping with our kids for the last three days. We are unpacking now.
Hope this helps,

Dear NVGemWeb Volunteers
For those of you who don't know, my name is Bettie Wood, & I am your
SWSC Advisory Board CC Representative. Since Patricia Scott has
resigned as your SC, I am in the process of setting up a SC election.
At the moment, this is the way the plans are set to go--any suggestions
are welcome!
1) There will probably be a roll call to make sure we have all the
volunteers included.
2) A time frame will be set to receive nominations (about 10 days or so
for that)
3) A time for campaigning--about 7 days or so
4) Dates & times will be set for actual voting
I will set up a web site with the details, nominations, etc. on it.
What I need to know is--in case of only one nomination, do you all want
to have an election anyway or just go with the one nominee?

I believe that you have mixed up the section numbers Betty. It
seems that the proper section should be the poorly written Art VI,
Sec 3. "The responsibilities of the Advisory Board shall include:
addressing any problem issues as they arise, aiding the state
projects upon request, overseeing elections, advising and
mediating, if necessary, any grievances or appeals, and appointing
a Webmaster to maintain the national website."
What this secion does not define is what is just what elections
will be overseen, national or XXGenWeb. My contention is that AB
should NOT have its hands in any XXGenWeb election. Additionally
Betty, as a USGWP politico, you have no business running an
NVGenWeb election. You have vested interests. It would be FAR
better that the EC handed the election or perhaps even some
uninvolved folk. BTW, if Patricia Scott resigned as NV-SC,
shouldn't Lureigne Gimay be the SC pro tem?

The reasons "Sturgis" gives against declaring "that person the
winner" is that it denies the members the right to write in the
name of another member AND to keep their choice secret. (p.159).

No Point in having an election if only one candidate I don't think!
