I have added new cemeteries to the Mineral County pages:
Sodaville Cemetery: Sue Silver provided some photos and her research of the
residents and deceased on this small mining community which died out about 1915.
It is a few miles south of Mina, and about 38 miles south of Hawthorne, Nevada.
Sue's research is a valuable addition for our genealogy friends, and a very
welcome addition. Thanks, Sue.
Last summer, I managed to spend a couple of hours in the Mina Cemetery, which is
about 35 miles south of Hawthorne, Nevada. I just finished posting those
photos. The cemetery has not been completely photographed, so if there are some
volunteers out there that would like to add to this collection, please contact
me.
DOUGLAS COUNTY:
Mottsville Cemetery is almost complete in the addition of photos of this
historic cemetery. The town of Mottsville is located near Minden, Nevada, and
within a half hour west of Carson City. I made a point of stopping at this
cemetery to search for an ancestory of mine, and I'm glad to say it was a
successful trip.
Greg Hinson provided photos and a directional map to the Happy Hunting Grounds
cemetery, also near Carson City. We are very appreciative of this contribution.
Many thanks, Greg.
WASHOE COUNTY: A very great success story happened last week, when the Northern
Nevada Adult Mental Health Services Cemetery was formally dedicated as an
Historic Cemetery. You can see the information and there's a link to the photos
of the cemetery as it looks today, compared to the tragic mess it was just a
short two years ago. The Friends of the Cemetery (link on my page) were
untiring in their efforts to correct all the wrongs that occured to the poor
inmates of this historic asylum. A lot of research was done by the volunteers
to determine who was buried in this cemetery (at last count, they determined
over 1,000 deceased). Take a look and visit the Friends of the Cemetery web
page.
