I moved to Mineral County, NV (which was part of Esmeralda County until 1911) a few years
ago, after coming through these parts for 15 years. I am a Historian and a Genealogist and
noticed that records aren't what they could be especially with burials. So I at first,
and now with the help of my friends Sue Silver are attempting to recreate burial listings
where there are little or none, such as Candelaria, Belleville, Aurora, Luning, Rawhide,
Sodaville, Marietta and such. In doing so I ended up with an interest in the CHIATOVICH
family even though for the most part they stayed in Esmeralda County at Silver Peak, Fish
Lake Valley and in and around Tonopah and Goldfield.with some Reno settlers also. When the
e-mail came to the list this morning from Luella's granddaughter and John O'Keefe
was mentioned my interest was peaked and I just had to respond.
Is the John O'KEEFE you mentioned the son of Michael O"KEEFE ? If so I would
very much like to compare our notes. I would like to make sure I have everyone in the
family and perhaps you could fill in the blanks I have. Michael O'KEEFE and John's
sister Annie O'KEEFE are one of the few graves still marked in Candelaria cemetery. I
would love to know where the others are. Please contact me at GeminiEMG(a)yahoo.com
Thank you,

Hi Robin,
I'm Luella's granddaughter. She married my grandfather, John O'Keefe, in 1902
and they lived in Goldfield. They separated in about 1920. I don't think they were
divorced but they might have been. She moved with her five children to Los Angeles.
She's on the 1920 census in San Francisco and so is he but he is also on the 1920
census in Goldfield.
My aunt Pat had pictures of your Grandfather. She said he was one of the nicest people she
had ever known. I might add that from the picture he was also a very handsome man.
I'll have to check my census but I think he lived in Los Angeles at one time.
I imagine you have the book "Never A Ghost Town" by Victoria Ford. A seller on
EBay told me about it. His Dad worked with Pat Chiatovich. Small World. I have contact
with another cousin but don't want to post it.
Have never been to the ranch or Goldfield but would like to. However I don't think my
husband would be very interested and I'm not confortable renting a car and driving
myself.
My E-mail is patkayf(a)aol.com. I'd like to hear from you directly rather than through
the board.
