Dear Chris,
I have been looking through records that I have or know of and have not found
the HUGHESDON name as you spell it. You might look closely at the burial index
and see if one name is close to this surname. However it is not matching other
data you share. This is found at the second website listed here. The first
website is a general archive for Elko County and might hold something, but I
did not find it.
The other information listed here are some ideas for further inquiry. The museum
is a friendly place and they hold many documents.
Then there is the county recorders office. They may hold land or other legal
documents (claims)).
I've included the Elko County Library. They have old newspapers from the area on
microfilm. They also have the best reader equipment that I've ever worked with.
If you are ever in the area, you might take time to check it out and ask what
they hold. I don't know if they have people there that will do research. It
never hurts to ask.
Another idea, have you checked the 1880 federal census? If so, where did the
family live?
Good luck on your family quest. I hope this helps,
Maureen Brook

Message Board Post:
Hi,
I've been trying to trace ancestors of mine that traveled from England to
settle in Elko in around 1880. I have some patchy information on them, but
was wondering if anyone has come across them in their research - or if anyone
could point me towards someone who could help?
The group of ancestors in question are John Hughesdon (born 1816 London), his
wife Ann (born 1815 California) and their son John Hughesdon (b1859
California).
I would really appreciate any help anyone could offer.
Regards,
Chris Hughesdon.
