In an old collection of information from some family sources (my husband's mother was
a SPACE) is a photocopy of an old newspaper clipping from an unknown and undated paper.
There are pictures of five men on it and the caption reads "RETURN ENGAGEMENT!
STARTING WED., JAN. 5TH" The rest of the article is as follows: "The FIVE SPACES
- YOU ASK FOR THEM BACK ... Here they are! The sensational FIVE SPACES. These fine boys
have just finished a 16 months engagement at the famed Commercial Hotel in Elko, Nevada.
We're bringing them back for your entertainment pleasure. AT NO ADVANCE IN PRICES!
COME AND ENJOY THIS HILARIOUS GANG! CLAYTON CLUB 1126 7th St." They don't seem to
belong to anyone of our known family, so the article was probably just saved because of
the SPACE name. The years that January 5th was on a Wednesday are 1927, 1938, 1944, 1949,
1955, and 1966. We've had the copy at least since 1966. I don't think the hair and
dress styles would have been before 1938. I can't f!
ind out where this Clayton Club was, but I understand that the Commercial Hotel in Elko
was famous. Where can I find out about this hotel and when this act would have been
there?
