William Hansen Taken by Death
William Hansen, a native of Bodie CA, historic mining camp, and widely known rancher of
Carson Valley, died yesterday morning at a local hospital following a brief illness. He
was 62 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the ranch home in the
valley with arrangements in charge of the Crosby Co., of Carson City.
Member of a pioneer family of western Nevada, Mr Hansen was interested in the operation of
the Hansen and Park sawmill near the foot of Kingsbury grade while a young man and
thirty-four years ago purchased the present Hansen ranch.
His mother, who with her husband the late Hans Hansen came by wagon train from Utah to
Genoa when that town was the principal settlement of the state, still lives in Reno. She
is Mrs Anna Borland 82 of 204 State Street.
The Hansen family went from Genoa to Bodie where William Hansen was born, then moved to
Empire where Mr Hansen's father had charge of mill operations. Hans Hansen then went
to Alaska and died soon after his return to Carson Valley.
Surviving are his wife Mrs Eliza Hansen, a daughter, Mrs Irvin Elges of Carson City, two
sons, Hugh Hansen of Gardnerville and Elmer Hansen of Reno, his mother, Mrs Anna Borland
of Reno, a sister, Mrs Carrie Warren, Reno, and six grandchildren, Charles and Harlen
Elges of Carson, Marcel and Steven Hansen of Gardnerville, and Marilyn and David Hansen of
Reno.
