Loyd Ulyses Needles, 65, of Carson City, Nev., and formerly of Loveland died Feb. 17,
2003, at Carson Tahoe Hospital in Carson City.
He was born July 10, 1937, in Loveland to Charles Needles and Veva Shupe. He attended Big
Thompson Elementary School and Loveland High School.
He was married twice, first to Barbara Murley Spradling, then to Dolleen Needles
(deceased).
He worked in the construction trade.
He was a member of Buckhorn Presbyterian Church in Masonville. He volunteered in the
community as a Little League baseball and Midget League football coach. He enjoyed sports
and working with young boys.
He also served in the National Guard Reserves. He moved to Carson City in 1994 and
recently retired there. He was a member of the local American Legion Post 53.
Later, Mr. Needles lived in Estes Park and then Clearlake, Texas, where he was a
self-employed contractor.
He is survived by son Rick Needles of Hemet, Calif.; sister Mona Houseman of Littleton;
and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Carson City.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry’s Crematory of Carson City.
