Elizabeth L. McAnern, known as Betty, of Las Vegas, born April 29, 1944, passed away
Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at Nathan Adelson Hospice, following a long, brave struggle with
cancer. She was 61. Beloved wife of Richard H. McAnern of Las Vegas. Cherished mother of
Michelle McAnern Calavita and son-in-law, Marco Calavita, and loving grandmother of
Elizabeth May Calavita, all of El Cerrito, Calif. Dear daughter of Grace Muskopf Lenhardt
and the late Robert H. Lenhardt of Waterloo, Ill. Fond sister of David Lenhardt of St.
Louis, and the late Robert Lenhardt, Jr., of Waterloo. She is also survived by David's
wife, Bridget, and daughter, Meghan; sisters-in-law, Miriam Goodspeed of Florida, and
Ginger Betts and Carol McAnern, both of California; brothers-in-law, David McAnern and
George McAnern, both of California; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was
loved and admired, too, by her many friends, near and far. She also touched the lives of
many students throughout the !
valley as a reading teacher, first at Rancho High School, and later at Gibson Middle
School. A 38 year resident of Las Vegas, she moved west from her childhood home of
Waterloo, Ill., in the years following her graduation from Southern Illinois University in
Carbondale. She will be remembered for her warmth, grace and good humour, her generous and
caring spirit, and her loving devotion to her family and friends. Memorial service will be
at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, at Palm Mortuary-Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. Donations in
Betty's name may be made to the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District Foundation,
702-507-3559, in honor of her love of reading and library patronship, or to the American
Cancer Society.
