The "Family History and DNA: Genetic Genealogy in 2014" conference will be
held on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Hotel in
Burbank, California. The event is co-sponsored by the Southern California
Genealogical Society and ISOGG (International Society of Genetic Genealogy).
Last year's conference - the first independent DNA conference -- was a huge
success, and this year promises to be another outstanding event.
Discounts are also available this year for those who attend both the DNA and
Jamboree events, and for SCGS members.
Here's a brief reminder of the outstanding speakers and activities planned
for this year's DNA conference:
Dr. Maurice Gleeson, Irish DNA expert, will open the conference with "How
DNA Will Change the Face of Irish Genealogy." He will give several other
presentations throughout Thursday and at Jamboree as well. We know that
those with Irish descent will find Dr. Gleeson's presentations of great
interest.
ISOGG leadership is well represented among the faculty. Katherine Borges,
CeCe Moore, Blaine Bettinger, Tim Janzen, MD; Kathy Johnston, MD; Bonny
Cook, and Alice Fairhurst will all be making one or more presentations on
Thursday. Blaine, CeCe and others will also be speaking at Jamboree.
In addition, the DNA conference will feature G. Russell, JD, CG, CGL (The
Legal Genealogist), Steve Morse, PhD, and Diahan Southard, Genetic Genealogy
Consultant.
Featured at the luncheon will be a panel discussion, "Peering Into the
Future of Genetic Genealogy," moderated by Blaine Bettinger. Members of the
panel include representatives of the major DNA testing companies, Joanna
Mountain, PhD, of 23andMe; Bennett Greenspan of Family Tree DNA, and a
representative of AncestryDNA. Diahan Southard will also participate in the
panel discussion. Luncheon tickets will be available through May 24, 2014.
Classes will be available for individuals with novice / beginner,
intermediate and advanced levels of DNA experience and genealogy knowledge.
Personal and small-group assistance will be available on Friday morning,
June 6th, as part of the Jamboree Genealogy World event. Kathy Johnston and
Bonny Cook are lining up hosts for the round table discussions. Complete
information on the table topics will be available soon.
Don't miss out on this outstanding conference! It's the only DNA-specific
event that is held in conjunction with a major genealogy conference, so you
can immerse yourself in a full weekend of DNA and genealogy.
