Last night I received a phone call from a life long friend and after I was told what was
going on in a high school I attended years ago I was so enraged I could hardly believe
this was happening. I was told that the grandchild, a senior at Chanute Senior High School
in Chanute, Neosho County, Kansas was being forced to participate in their government
class, a required subject in order to graduate this year, in a 5 week program as a member
of the Communist Party. The supposed theory for making them do this is "if you
don't live it you can't understand it". In my eyes this is conditioning our
children for communism and they should not be forced against their will as a condition of
graduation to participate. There are many other means to teach our children about
communism, but this surely isn't one of them. And excuse me, but I sure don't need
to live it to understand it!!!
They are spending 5 weeks reading George Orwell's 1984 book and can only read 13 pages
a day. This grandchild does not like having this poked down their throat and is distraught
with having to deal with this in school. I also found out that the Humboldt, Allen Co.
Kansas school is teaching or has taught a similar class on "racism" making kids
use separate bathrooms, etc. To what extent that class goes to I don't know.
The kids in Chanute are required to:
wear to school daily a red arm band
every time they walk into EVERY class they have to say "good morning comrades, tell
how happy they are to be there & how happy they are that the teacher is instructing
them"
every time they leave EVERY class they have to say "thank you for instructing
us"
they are not allowed to discuss it with anyone outside the communist party and not to
discuss it with anyone at home or other school members or teachers.
if anyone asks them what's going on they are to say "meet me after school and
I'll tell you about it" (ie recruiting)
must write with a blue pen in all classes (causing problems with teachers in other classes
affecting their grades because those teachers are not privy to it)
any announcements that come of the loud speaker they have to cheer "Go comets",
i. e representative of "Heil Hitler"
at the end of the 5 weeks they are required to write a 2 page report on "how they
felt" and that's it, nothing about what they think about anything else only how
the felt, and are not allowed to criticize the communist party in any way.
Some students are appointed as "private police" that report infractions on the
other students and nobody knows who they are. They don't have to prove the infractions
are true, they just have to report infractions. If the police don't report these
infractions they get into trouble.some infractions are: not wearing the armband, talking
to somebody whose not in the communist party, or pretty much what they wish to report or
whether they were committed or not. These are posted on a bulletin board daily outside the
classroom how many infractions each student has. Each infraction requires an additional 1
page on their report or they can pay $2. This is no more than pitting children against
children and public humiliation.
The two teachers that I was told who are involved in this are David Cadwallader, Social
Studies and Lucia Ellis, English and Social Studies

If this is how they are teaching our children, what is next? I wonder if this is going on
in other schools across the nation and if it is parents need to put a stop to this. Please
people wake up and take notice at what's happening in our country. I cry thinking
about what's going to happen to my children and grandchildren. I watched this kind of
behavior go on in the 60's and 70's and it's cause for alarm not only what is
being taught to our children, but how. This to me is a violation of these children's
rights to have to endure this traumatic situation. How many other children are feeling the
same way?
