James Arthur Gibson and his wife, Katherine "Kate" Ann Smith were my
great-grandparents. Kate was born in Oregon City, Ore., on 12 Nov. 1865 to Silas R. Smith
(who was from Maine, according to a Census record) and Ann Eliza Miller (who was from
Indiana, according to a Census record). I understand that James was born in Charlotte,
N.C., but do not know what happened to him. A newspaper account suggests he died in
Washington in the early 1900s. Kate moved to Searchlight with her son, Harold Royal
Gibson, in about 1910. Kate later married a miner named Bert Mizer. She died in
Searchlight on 29 Dec. 1938 and is today buried there. Harold was born in Centerville,
Wash., on 28 April 1905 and led a rather colorful life as a musician. In fact, you could
see an interesting exhibit about him in the Searchlight museum and he is alluded to in a
recent book about Searchlight by Nevada Sen. Harry Reid. Harold died on 22 Sept. 1983.
Harold's siblings included Beryle Vivette Gibson (10 Feb.!
1888 to 14 July 1941) and Wilma E. Gibson (13 Aug. 1889 to 30 July 1959). If there are
others, I don't know who they are. Harold and his wife Planeta "Anita"
Glaunert had four children -- Helen, Catherine "Cathy" (my mother), Suzy, and
Michael. We have some newspaper clips, death certificates and Census records that you may
be interested in. I'd love to see what information you have, as well.
