Sandy, I live in Wisconsin. Perhaps there is a local I can pay to check the
papers. My grandfather was never listed as missing. He and my grandmother
were divorced at the time and my grandmother never called the authorities.
Is there perhaps a way that I can hire someone there to look in the papers?

Depending on where you live. If you live in NV I would start with the
local newspaper 1926-1928. If he came up missing there was probably
something in the paper. I have found some great things in the newspapers in
NV. I read what is on Ancestry but have a great cousin who loves genealogy
and lives there.
Good Luck,
Sandy

Subject: [NVCHURCH] Can anyone help me?
My grandfather, William Luster Lackey, disappeared in 1927 the day after
writing my grandmother a letter stating that he was leaving Wadsworth, NV
and driving his car to Ely, Nevada. He would have left on Christmas Eve
day
of 1927. I have since learned that there was a bad snow storm in the area
that day and I am quite sure he was stranded on what was probably the
historic Lincoln Highway. Does anyone know who I might contact to find
information on a stranded car or body this far back in history? You can
