Lois Lattin May Dies in Arizona
Mrs. Lois Lattin May member of a well known early-time family of Churchill county,
died last week in Window Rock, Arizona.
Lois L May was born in 1892 in Desmet, S.D,., and came to Nevada in 1909 with her
parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. George Lattin. The old two story former Lattin house on
the farm southeast of Fallon on highway 50 still stands a landmark.
Mrs. May graduated from the Fallon high school, taught in the rural schools and
received her bachelor of science degree attending the universities at Madison, S.D. and
Lincoln, Nebr.
She was the wife of Dr. Don May, executive of Indian affairs and mother of Dan May,
jr. Kalamazoo, Mich. Lynn May, Pueblo, Colo., and Mrs. Ann Clark, Tucson, Ariz. The Mays
have been living the last several years at the Window Rock Navajo reservation.
Surviving besides her immediate family are a sister, Mrs. Mary Hollister of Fallon,
four brothers H.C. Lattin, Ralph Lattin and Mark Lattin, Fallon and Homer Lattin of
Hayward, Calif.
Intersting to note the 1900 census lists their last name as Latin when they were in South
Dakota. George was an attorney and he and Sarah had been married 20 years. She had 8
children with 6 alive as of this census and all six are listed on the census with them and
with birth months and years. All were born in South Dakota.
If you go on the web to:
www.lattinfarms.com/about/history it will tell you about the
farm now and some personal information on the family.
Happy searching. Do you need more info on her brothers and sisters? If so let me know
and I will check it out.
Regards, Arline in Nevada {I do docent research at the Nevada Historical Society here in
Reno and its at my fingertips}
