A celebration of life for McDermitt native Batista Albisu, 84, will be held Saturday, 1-5
p.m. at McDermitt Community Hall. The event also honors his late wife, Alice Marie Albisu,
who died Nov.17,1989
Batista Albisu died June 11, 1999 at his daughter's Fernley home.
Born Oct. 12, 1914 in McDermitt to Ignacio and Tomasa Bedarona Albisu, he lived in
McDermitt untill 1998 when he moved to his daughter's home in Fernley where he lived
until his death. He was a winter resident of Yuma, Ariz., since 1972. He owned and
operated gas service stations, a wholesale gas business, restaurant and bar, farms and
supplied water and electricity to McDermitt. He was a 47-year member of the Elks and
42-year member of the American Legion. Albisu served in the Army in the European Theater
during World War II and was discharged as a staff sergeant.
Albisu was also preceded in death by brothers, Eusebio, Victor, Elario, Frank and Donato
Albisu; and sisters, Concha Olavarria, and Mary McGuire.
Survivors include son, Leon Albisu of McDermitt; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jack
Cook of Fernley; grandson, Brett Albisu of Reno; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, shana
and Jim Rodgers of Laramie, Wyo.; great-granddaughter, Brittney Rodgers of Laramie;
brother, Santy Albisu of McDermitt; and numerous neices and nephews.
Arrangements are under the direction of Reno Memorial.
