Funeral services for long-time Fallon resident Lawrence "Larry" Thompson, 80, will be held Monday 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Interment will also be Monday, 2 p.m., at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley.
Visitation is Monday, 9-10 a.m., at the Smith Family Funeral Home.
Thompson died Dec. 1, 1998 at Sierra Convalescent Center in Carson City.
Born April 18, 1918 in St. Louis, Mo., to Lawrence and Julia Bonneville Thompson, he had lived in Fallon since 1954, coming from Santa Clara, Calif. A World War II veteran, he was in the Korean Conflict and particiated in the Battle of the Cora Sea aboard the USS Lexington. In 1956, after serving 20 years, he retired as a chief petty officer. He then worked as a fire captain for NAS Fallon for 19 yeaars. He also owned Valley Plumbing.
Thompson was elected justice of the peace in 1972 and served until 1976 when he retired. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, American Judges Assn., American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fleet Reserve, and charter member of Fallon BPOE Elks.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Mildred Schnefke and Bernice Hinton.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mathilda "Peggy" Thompson of Fallon; sons, Jake of Reno, Mike and Lew, both of Carson City, Jim of Olympia, Wash., and Joseph of Denver, Colo.; and 8 grandchildren.

a.m., at Smith Family Funeral Home with inurnment to be held at the Fallon Cemetery.

Born Oct. 26,1906 in Fowler, Calif., to Philip and Dora Rice Hursh, she graduated from Churchill County High School in 1924. A resident of Reno for 20 years, she had lived in Nevada most of her life. Mrs Byrd was a bookkeeper and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by brother and sisters, Ernest Hursh, Edna Gray, Philip Hursh, Vernon Hush, Lillian Weeks and Paul Hursh.
Survivors include sons, Ronald, Bill and Bob and sisters, Loleta Fuller and Gladys DeKay, all of Reno; son Richard of Marysville, Calif; daughters, Lita Byrd of San Francisco, and Lynn Byrd of Sacramento; sister, Melba Kaufman of San Francisco; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services for Fallon native Henry Alameda Souza, 75, will be conducted Wednesday, 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with a wake for family and friends in the Parish Hall.
Souza died Jan. 10, 1999 in Resende, Brazil of heart complications.
Born March 7, 1923 in Fallon to Manuel C. and Maria Souza of Portugal, he graduated from Churchill County High School, joined the navy and served on the Hospital Ship Repose during World War II and the Korean War. Following the Navy, he moved to Reno and became active in the Plumbers Local Union #350 and taught apprentiship in the union and later served as secretary, treasurer and president. Following retirement he remained active in the union while traveling to Brazil and Portugal tracing family history.
Souza was one of the original members of the Equal Opportunities Board, later known as Community Services Agency of Washoe County. He was also a life member of AFL-CIO and member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Church, VFW, American Legion, Elks, Democratic Central Community and worked on other community projects.
Survivors include wife, Dori Beedle of Challenge, Calif.; son, Terry of Fallon; daughters, Valoris Osborn of Sparks andd Mary Anne Souza of Reno; brother, Frank and sister, Lourdes Owen, both of Hawthorn; grandchildren, Trampton, Hoyt, Joy and Neil Souza, all of Fallon, Cherrie Griener, Brent Osborn, Bradley Souza, Travis Souza, and April Hammond, all of Reno, and Melanie Lundgren of Jacksonville, Fla., 10 great-grandchildren; and 6 nieces and nephews.

Services were held Saturday at the NAS Fallon Chapel for Ned Bruce Leisy, 62, of Sparks.
Interment was held at Norther Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley.
He died Feb. 10, 1999 at his residence.
Born Aug. 15, 1936 in Paso Robles, Calif., to Gilbert and Bernice Jespersen Leisy, he had lived in Sparks since 1985, coming from Washington State. A retired navel commander, he was the range safety manager for Lockheed Martin at NAS Fallon.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1995.
Survivors include wife, Jeane Beryl Keyes Leisy and sons, Ray, Edward, and Bryan, all of Sparks; father, Gilbert and sister, Pat Hansen, both of Paso Robles, Calif; brother, Ray of Saratoga, Calif; and one grandchild.
Arrangements were under the direction of Ross, Burke & Knobel Funeral Home of Sparks.

Former Fallon resident Bucky Gene McCullar, Sr., 60, of Elk Grove, Calif., died Feb 9, 1999.
Born Feb. 28, 1938 in Hartshorne, Olka., to Dee and Nadine McCullar, he had lived in California for 45 years, moving there when he was 15. He earned the Title of National High School Calf Roping Champion.
A horse trainer, he was involved with training children, training for cutting horses, team roping, calf horses and others. He moved to Fallon in 1985 where he bought, sold, traded and trained horses. He later moved to Elk Grove, Calif., area.
McCullar was preceded in death by daughter, Heidi McCullar and father, Dee McCullar.
Survivors include wife, Connie of Elk Grove; mother, Nadine McCullar of Scaramento, Calif.; sons, Cotton St. Dennis of Tahoe, Calif., Brent St. Dennis of Yreka, Calif., Tim Stone of Elk Grove, Glen McCullar of Arizona and Bucky McCullar, Jr. of Galt, Calif; daughters, Tammy Norcut of Minden and Kim Stone Friberg of Fallon; and 18 grandchildren.

Memorial services for Alfred "Al" Woodsford, 89, of Fallon will be conducted Saturday, 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church.
He died Dec.4, 1998 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital in Carson City.
Born Feb. 3, 1909 in San Fancisco, Calif., to Alfred and Florence Kessel Woodsford, he attended schools in England and the U.S. where he learned the trade of his father, masterman plasterer. He and his father rebuilt the Santa Barbara, Calif., mission following the earthquake. Woodsford then worked for the Santa Barbara, Calif., Telephone Co. aand was a dance instructor during the 1920s and 90s. He also worked there as a general contractor. He moved to the Isle of Jersey in England where he was a general contractor from 1934-39. Returning to the U.S. abord the Empress of Britain, he worked for Kenner Aircraft Co. as a machinist during the World War II.
Woodsford moved to Fallon in 1945 where he lived off and on, returning in 1996. He and his wife, Charlotte, owned Walker's Market and Stop'N Shop in Fallon.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Charlotte Christina Quilitch Woodsford and brother, Harry Woodsford.
Survivors include sons, Alfred of Fallon and Bob of Las Vegas; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Inurnment is under the direction of Walton's Carson Sierra Crematory in Carson Ccity.

He graduated from Appleton Senior High School in Appleton, Wisc., and attended Lawrence College for one year and then joined the Army. While in the Army he attended the University of Maine for one year and after World War II, he graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in architecture and design in 1951. He taught at the university for one year and then worked for Unistruct Corp in Wayne, Mich., for 27 years as a corporate architect and in research and development. He became a Michigan registered architect in 1959, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, served on the city planning and zoning commissions, worked on the master plan for Wayne, Mich. before he and his wife moved to Fallon.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Norma "Toni" Fawcett Lecker, son and daughter-in-law Scott Alan and Shawn and grandchildren, Jacob, Rachel and Anna, all of Fallon; son and daughter-in-law Blair William and Dina and grandchildren, Michelle and Marcy, all of North Las Vegas.

He was a veteran of World War II.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Blaine.

Tucker died Dec. 4, 1998 in Fallon.
Born Jan. 31, 1923 to George and Lena Tucker, he graduated from Dodge City High and served as a Navy pilot during WWII. He received the Purple Heart. He later graduated from pharmacy school in Denver, Colo. He married Shirley Fay March 30, 1947 in Ely and the marriage was solemnized April 7, 1959 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
The couple moved to Fallon in 1955 and Tucker worked as a pharmacist for the Morris & Loring drugstore, which he later purchased. He had also owned and operated Frontier Pharmacy and was the founder of bob Tucker's Pharmacy in Fernley. He served several years on the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy.
Tucker was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Laura.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley; daughters, Janet Hyde and Shelley Foster; son, George R. "Bobby" Jr.; sister, Vivian; 16 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Doyle died June 6, 1999 at her daughter's Reno residence.
Born Oct. 26, 1915 in Lindsay, Okla., to James L. and Flara Mae Taylor Garrison, she lived in Reno for 10 months, coming from Winnemucca. She was a retired waitress.
Mrs. Doyle was preceded in death by her husband Tracy in 1974, brother Richard in 1949, sister Kay Luce in 1981 and infant sons Tracy in 1948 and Harvey in 1952.

No services are scheduled for Clyde S. Smart, Jr., who passed away Tuesday afternoon at his Fallon resident at the age of 77.
He was born Aug. 18, 1921 in Fallon to Clyde and Rowena Gulling Smart and had been a northern Nevada resident for his entire life.
He was a retired engineer working in road construction and a member of Operating Engineers #3, Teamsters, Free and accepted Masons #15. Smart also served in WWII with the Marine Corps.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eva Smart in 1986. He is survived by his son Dean, daughter Dana Smart, niece Laura Young, all of Fallon; son Darrel, a brother Dick of Florida; daughter Sandy Caneiro of Fenton, Delaware; daughter Shawna Hanson of Elko; brother Bob Smart of Reno; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Effie Works in 1956; son, Raul Lewis; and sister, Floreen Kaster.

Services and internment for long-time resident Luraley l. Futrell Burdyshaw, 101, will be held in Joneboro, Ark. Mrs. Burdyshaw died Jan. 26, 1999 in Fallon.
Born Dec. 17, 1897 in Gold Pond, KY., she was honored on her 100th birthday in 1997 by the city andd Fallon Mayor Ken Tedford with a proclamation designating Dec. 17 as Luraley L. Futrell Burdyshaw Day. Her story was featured on the front page of the Lahontan Valley News-Fallon Eagle Standard Dec. 20, 1997.
While a child, she traveled by covered wagon from Kentucky to Eastern Arkansas, walking most of the journey. Raised in Arkansas, she later married farmer George Burdyshaw and had three sons.
Following her husband's death, she moved to Longe Beach, Calif., and worked at a bakery and later as a caregiver for a family's five children. In 1987, she moved to Fallon to be near her granddaughter.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Burdyshaw was preceded in death by sons, Glenn and Dale.
Survivors include son, Ralph Burdyshaw and grandsons, Carlos and Lloyd, all of Bono, Ark.; granddaughter and great-grandson Gerald Ogle, both of Fallon; granddaughters, Cynthia Burdyshaw and Debbie Burdyshaw, both of Southern Calif.; grandsons, Gary, Gene, Gerald Glenn, Jr. and Greg Burdyshaw all of Polsbo, Wash.; and other family members from Arkansas.

Shirley Ann Whiteley, 55, died June 10 at her home in Fallon.
She was born July 20, 1943, in San Bernadino, Calif., to Earl Walter and Adelaide Dumousschelle Crane and had lived in Fallon three years, coming from Cypress, Calif.
Mrs. Whiteley was a homemaker and had also worked in sales at Montogomery Ward and Sears. She graduated from Eisenhower High School in Rialto, Calif., in 1962 and married her high school sweetheart Larry that same year.
She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Fallon.
Mrs. Whitley is survived by her husband, Larry; daughters, Christine Kruckenberg, Teri Sowden and Linda Mable; grandchildren, Darissa and Nichole Mable, Sara and Zachary Sowden, Britany, Micah and Erik Kruckeenberg, all of Fallon; brothers, Richard and John Crane of Las Vegas; sister Katherine Mulligan of Nipomo, Calif.; mother of Las Vegas.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 7-8 p.m. at the Smith Family Funerl Home Chapel. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funral home. Burial will follow in the Fallon Cemetery.

Alyma Fae Atkinson, 75, died June 12 at her home of natural causes.
She was born Jan. 11, 1924 to Soloman S. and Minnie I. Standridge Jackson in St. Louis, Okla.
Mrs. Atkinson had lived in Fallon since 1958, coming from Guam. She was a retired secretary who worked at NAS Fallon and also belonged to the Myrtle Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile.
Preceding her in death were her parents and sister Edith Mae Shook.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William "Willie" Atkinson; sons, W. Bruce and Gary B. both of Reno; brother, Darryl Jackson of Los Alamos, New Mexico; grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Jenna, Jill and Jessica, all of Reno.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Order of Eastern Star and by Rev. Duane Vaughn of Nazarene Church.
Inurnment will be at the Fallon Cemetery.
