The Social Security Death Index:
Raymond Chapman, born 11 April 1906, died June 1982, "last residence" Carson
City, NV 89701. SSN, 526-07-4874, issued in Arizona before 1951.
-The "last residence" on the SSDI is NOT necessarily where a person actually
lived or died. The Social Security Administration calls it simply the "home of
record." It is not necessarily where any benefit was paid to the person, survivor, or
the lumpsum death benefit (in 1982 was paid to anyone paying burial expenses, family
member, funeral home, city/county, attorney). It is sometimes the location where the
notification of death was sent to the SSA, sometimes where the lump sum death benefit was
sent. I have seen the "last residence" identified for a person that had not
been in a particular State.
I checked the recorded documents for Washoe County for both names, no documents were
listed. This does not mean they didn't live here, it just means they didn't
recorded any property, trusts, liens, deeds, power-of-attorney, or have documents recorded
in their name (probate, etc.).
The Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness has one volunteer that does gravestone pictures,
but does not indicate if they do the research to find them. But, they may have a resource
for you for such investigation:
http://www.raogk.org/nevada.htm READ the guidelines first.
A family tree owned by "ChrisRansome1" identified Raymond was born in Monroe,
Hamilton, Nebraska, and died 23 June 1982 in Carson City; but, the source is the SSDI. It
identifies his wife was Imogene Sue McBean, born 13 April 1911 in Missouri, died 27 June
1992, again Carson City with source of the SSDI. It also shows two "living"
sons and two "living" daughters.
Several other trees identify the same, "huskerknox" identified Raymond's
burial on 25 June 1982 in Carson City. I sent a message to the owner of this tree to read
this thread. Perhaps they know where buried.
