The Nevada State Journal , Reno 1915 Aug 03. Mentions him. Said hasn't shaved for 32
years and his beard has now reached the length of eight and one half feet. The owner
wears it wrapped around a piece of cardboard thrust under his vest.
The Reno Evening Gazetter. January 1, 1927.
Zachary Taylor Wilcox, died yesterday in Carson City at the age of 79 years. His beard,
fifteen feet in length was second largest beard. It was after the Sacramento Whiskerino
of four years ago last summer that Wilcox came home and drew up a will in which he
bequeathed his beard to the Sacramnento Whiskerino Club. Just before internment the beard
will be shorn and later sent to the Sacramento organization in compliance with his will.
Wilcox was born in Whittingham Vt. in April 1847 etc,
He was one of Carson's characters for years riding through the streets on a bicycle,
an old green parrot perched upon the handlebars. The parrot belonged to Mrs. Minnie
Crister, with whom Wilcox had made his home for many years. etc etc.
It mentions an auto accident and was in the hospital since December 9th. He had no known
relatives.
Quite a long article in the paper.
Another colorful character in Nevada's history. Glad to share this with you.
Regards, Arline in Reno
