Louis WILLIAMS, fifty year old Pauite Indian, was killed when he was struck by an
automobile on the Lakeview grade late Thursday afternoon. The car was driven by A.M.
MACKENZIE of Reno. A coroners jury Friday returned a verdict that the accident was
unavoidable and feed MACKENZIE of any blame.
WILLIAMS was born in Bodie in 1884, the son of Lorne and Annie WILLIAMS. Graduated from
Stuart Indian School in 1908. He enlisted in the 63rd infantry 8 May 1918 at the Presidio,
re-enlisted 24 Apr 1919 in the 8th infantry in which outfit he served until his final
discharge in 1928. He is survived by his widow and brother in Schurz.
Funeral services were conducted by Mineral County Post 19, American Legion on Sunday. He
was buried by his intimate friends. The American flag which draped his casket was
presented to is brother, Murphy WILLIAMS.
Pallbeareers were Ray POWELL, Mr. WHITEFEATHER, E.E. BROWN, Roy HIGGINS, Thomas BENJAMIN
and John FRANK.
