Feb 3, The mercury dropped to 2 above zero, the coldest in 14 months in Reno.
Feb 6, The discovery of a large surface deposite of perlite was reported near Fallon.
Feb 7, Scarity of snow in the mountains caused P.G.& E. to cut down its kilocycle
frequency, imposing a minor brown-out on Nevada power users.
The tempature hit two below zero in Reno. The ice choked flumes were unable to carry
water to Virginia City.
Feb 9, Bing CROSBY was sworn in an honorary mayor of Elko.
The legislative counsel bureau was surveying possibilities of a state sales tax.
Feb 10, Western Nevada Republicans listened to Rep. Fred L. CRAWFORD of Michigan in a
campaign year kick-off dinner in Reno.
Feb 11, Dr. Willian GOODIN of Reno was named state health officer.
Reno school trustees asked voters to approve a two and a half million dollar bond issue
for the proposed new high school.
Joseph T. McDONNELL resigned as graduate manager of the University of Nevada.
Feb 13, Snowpack atop the Sierra's was the scantiest for the date in 18 years, the
California cooperative snow survey reported.

banquet in Las Vegas.
Daniel J. SULLIVAN resigned as chairman of the Nevada Industrial Commission and was
replaced by George FRIEDHOFF.
Boca Reservoir contained less than 800 acre feet of water.
Feb 19, Reno school trustees approved a record $960,127.74 budget for 1948.
Nevada decided to buy the sprawling BMI plant in Clark County from the War Assets
administration for 24 million, paying one dollar down.
Feb 20 Belief was expressed that a brownout impossed in California by a power shortage
might extend to Western Nevada.
George OUTLAND, former California congressman addressed a large gathering of Democrats
at a Jefferson-Jackson day dinner in Reno.

Purchase of the FLICK Ranch at Glendale for a Catholic High School was announced.
Feb 27, The Humphrey Meat Packing Company closed its Reno plant after 40 years of
operations.
Feb 28, Reno School Board authorized construction of the Veteran's Memorial School
by the Walker Boudwin Company for $306,399.
