Michael KNOPF, proprietor of the famous Golden Willow Orchard on the highway North of
Hawthorne and a prominent resident of Mineral County for the past 30 years, died Monday
night (14 Dec) from injuries received in an automobile accident near town Friday evening
(11 Dec).
Funeral services will be arranged following the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Ed REGAN from
Burlingame, CA. Mrs. REGAN, a niece, is the only immediate living relative of deceased.
Jimmie GREENE who had been KNOPF'S closest companion in recent years arrived from
Carson City and is looking after the ranch property. W.H. GREENE, father of Jimmie and a
close friend of KNOPF'S for many years arrived from Carson City today to assist in the
funeral arrangements.
Raised in California where he became an expert orchardist KNOPF responded to the mining
boom when Tonopah was a young and teeming camp.
Born at Half Moon Bay, CA, KNOPF would have been 63 years old December 19, according to
records available although close friends believe he was slightly older than the figure
given.
