Article Description: William Martello, El Rey Club Owner, Goes Before The Board
Article Text:
Testimony in an illegal slot machine case at the El Rey Club in Searchlight was on the commissions agenda. The establishment is owneed by William MARTELLO.
Investigators found a machine equiped with a "jumper" in the establishment last August and MARTELLO was cited before the commission to show cause why his gambling license shouldn't be revoked.
Harry CLAIBORNE, Las Vegas Attorney, representing MARTELLO said his client purchased the one dollar machine from T and L Distributing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio and did not know that the device had been attached. The jumper prevented a jackpot bar on the second reel from engaging for payoffs.
In 1950 MARTELLO was cited for a deck of marked cards in play in a 21 game at the El Rey. MARTELLO denied knowing that the deck was in use but his license was revoked for more than a year.
No decision was made on this newest charge.
