Article Text:
Two would be uranium hunters from Lawrence, MA driving a stolen Pontiac and obtaining gas and cash with a credit card issued to a New York City meat packing firm were taken into custody here
4 Apr by undersheriff Lincoln SANDERS.
The two men, George PAGE, alias George N. PAGERLY, 31 and Matthew CORBETT Jr., 31, stopped at Park Ford Sales and Service on the afternoon of 4 Apr.
They attempted to obtain cash and repairs with a credit card. Douglas De MAEYER , an attendant, became suspicious and notified the sheriff's office.
Page and CORBETT left Park Ford Sales and were at Woody's Texaco Service Station when picked up by SANDERS.
A check with the Massachusetts state police revealed, that the car, ehich had Massachusetts license plates had been rented in Lawrence for one day by PAGE.
Further investigation showed that the credit card which PAGE used to obtain gas, repairs and cash en route from Massachusetts had been lost in Lawrence by a driver for the New York meat firm.
Local authorities also learned that PAGE is wanted in seven states on fraudulent check charges.
PAGE and CORBETT purchased camping equipment in Salt Lake City, UT and had planned to search for uranium in Nevada.
PAGE was turned over to the FBI and charged with transporting a stolen car across a state line. He was taken to Reno Thursday by the U.S. Marshall.
CORBETT was released Monday with instructions to leave town after it was learned that no extradition papers would be served on him.
