Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Yesterday afternoon the bard of August AAROE in Hawthorne was destroyed by fire. Owing to a high wind there was for a time fears for the town, but the active exertions of the citizens prevented the extension of the fire to other buildings.

Article Description: The Sudden Death Of D.H. Barker In San Francisco
Article Text:
The Gazette is called upon to record the death of another of Nevada's pioneers in the person of Don H. BARKER, who died yesterday at the Lick House in San Francisco. The first news was received yesterday by Dr. J.A. LEWIS in the following telegram:
San Francisco, October 27, Mr. BARKER died this afternoon, The remains will arrive in Reno Sundat morning.
Signed, Mrs. D.H. BARKER
Thus it is that the grim destroyer is gathering in his victims. Don H. BARKER was born in Syracuse, New York on November 2, 1834, and was therefore 58 years, 11 months and 25 days old. He came to this state in 1859 and has been a constant resident ever since. By profession he was a Civil Engineer, and his calling took him to the Eastern part of the State, where he was a prominent figure in the good old days of the Pioche and White Pine excitement.
He came to Reno in 1869, since which time he has resided here.
He leaves a widow to mourn his death but no children.
The funeral will take place tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence on Mill Street in Reno.

The County Commissioners have purchased the Mt. CORY Mill Boarding House, located five miles Westerly from Hawthorne. It will be utilized as a County Hospital and Poorhouse. Unless a change for the better takes place in Candelaria soon, there are liable to be many patrons from this camp to the last mentioned institution.

Article Description: "Billy" Robson Crosses The Divide

William L. ROBSON, late a saloon keeper in this place, who was shot in Sodaville on the evening of January 27th, by Martin BRAZZANOVICH, died in Hawthorne at 4:00 a.m. last Tuesday. His funeral occurred Wednesday afternoon at the county seat. H.J. HALL and W.H. THOMAS attended from that place.
"Billy" as he was famillarly called, waas an old and respected citizen of Candelaria. During a residence here off and on for upwards of fifteen yars, he was known as a friend to the needy and an upright business man. Those friends who knew him longest are the ones that most regret his death.

Article Description: Juan Echepare Dies At Nine Mile
Article Text:
Following an illness of three days, Juan ECHEPARE died Friday at Nine Mile, the old GREEN ranch located between Fletcher and Sweetwater in Mineral County. ECHEPARE, prominent sheep raiser of Western Nevada for the past 30 years, contracted pneumonia and when the seriousness of his illness was realized Dr. SMITH of Mina was summoned, but the call was too late.
Deceased was a French Basque and was a native of Spain. He came to this country about 35 years ago and grew to be one of the most widely known sheepman in Nevada. He was a member of the Reno Basque Colony although most of his interests were in Mineral County. He has no known relatives in this country. Joe ELCANO of Reno as next friend, has filed a petition for letters of administration of the estate, which is valued at $50,000.
Remains of deceased were brought to Hawthorne and from here taken to Reno where the funeral was held Monday.
