It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our
beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Geraldine Turnbull on
Monday, July 22, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her
Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Rod and Isa
Gerry was a secretary with the Cape Breton District School Board for
37 years. She began her career after graduation from Reserve Mines
District High School in 1977. Starting at Tompkins Elementary School,
she then moved to Glace Bay Elementary, where she was employed up
until the time of her illness. Gerry was a member of Local 5050, CUPE.
A very caring and compassionate person, Mom was always there to help
others when needed. As a foster parent, this was never more evident
when on a moments notice she would take at-risk children in and
provide a loving and caring environment for them. She spent many
years teaching those less fortunate the basic family values, love,
respect and trust. Mom's passion in life was her husband, children
and grandchildren for whom she lived.
Geraldine is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Ernel
Turnbull; daughters, Shauna (Wayne) Donovan, River Ryan, Jaclyn, at
home; her son, Ernel (Val), Reserve Mines; and grandchildren, Dylon,
Tytan, Gerilynne and Kyra. Also surviving are two brothers, George
(Donna) and Erville (Billy); four sisters, Lillian (Sam), Josie
(Sonny), Carol (James), Maurina; numerous nieces, nephews, brothers
and sisters-in-law and her mother-in-law, Mary Turnbull.
Besides her parents, Gerry was predeceased by her brother, Shelly
Stubbard, sister, Marian Saccary, father-in-law, Gerald Turnbull,
niece, Wanda McNeil and her very special nephew, Sgt. James MacNeil,
who payed the ultimate price in Afghanistan
Visitation will be held Thursday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray
Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated
by Rev. Dan Boudreau is Friday, 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church,
Reserve Mines ,followed by interment in the parish cemetery. All are
invited to join the family in the church hall for a reception.

It is with deep sadness the family of Peter Rizzo regretfully
announce his passing on July 22, 2013, peacefully at the New
Waterford Consolidated Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Richardo and Amelia (Coton) Rizzo.
He is survived by the love of his life, Jean MacLean; brothers, John,
Joe (Joan) Rizzo, all of New Waterford; sisters, Theresa Fior,
Guelph, Ont., Albina (Charles) Petley, New Waterford, Marina (Daniel)
Power, Kitchener, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews.
Peter was a kind and gentle giant. He loved to work in his garden and
enjoyed going to the horse races.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Richardo Rizzo,
sisters, Mary Lessley and Sylvia MacNeil and sister in-law, Carmel
By Peter's request, cremation has taken place. A chapel service to be
held Friday, July 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. in McLellan Brothers chapel
with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial will take place in Mount
Carmel Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent
Street. All are welcome.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers
Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.

George 'Mike' Munroe

Mike Munroe of Little Dover, N.S., passed away at the Red Deer
Hospice on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the age of 60 years.
Mike was born in Canso, N.S. on June 19, 1953. He took his schooling
at Guysborough Memorial High School and later received his industrial
electrician at Canso Regional Vocational School.
He was employed at a variety of places, such as, Bedford Institute of
Oceanography in Halifax, maintenance at Canso Seafoods in Canso,
Clearwater Fine Foods, he also worked as the trawler manager at Glace
Bay. Along with these positions, Mike was also an owner of Scotia
Tech Fab Welding Shop.
Mike was very fond of a good game of darts, cribbage, hunting,
fishing, canoeing, boating and he especially enjoyed his time with
family and friends. He always had time to lend a helping hand to a
friend or a stranger.
In 2011, Mike moved from Nova Scotia to Alberta to be closer to his children.
Mike will be lovingly remembered by his son, Jonathan Munroe, Red
Deer, Alta.; and his daughter, Alisa Munroe, Blackfalds, Alta.; as
well as, sister, Margie (Ronnie) Horne, Canso, N.S.; brothers, Eldon
(Loretta) and Paul, all of Little Dover, N.S., Merle, Fox Island,
N.S., David, Oxford, N.B., Clifford (Roberta), Antigonish, N.S., and
Dale (Shelly), North Sydney, N.S.
He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Kathleen Munroe and
his sister, Paulette (Munroe) Richardson.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Agnes Roman Catholic
Parish, Little Dover, Guysborough County, N.S., on Saturday, July 27,
2013, at 11 a.m.

The late John MacDougall of Ft. McMurray, Alta., has come home to his
final resting spot in Cape Breton. A private family interment of his
ashes will be held on Friday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at Resurrection
The MacDougall family will host a special gathering at the Ashby
Legion from 2-4 p.m. on Friday. We invite all who knew John to come
and share some memories.

Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 39 Grant St.,
Baddeck, with Rev. Brian MacLeod officiating. Service time is 2 p.m.
