Sophie Horechuk, 79, of 17 George St. and formerly of Wallace Road,
and Whitney Pier, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at the home of
Wally and Ruth MacAulay, with whom she resided with for the past seven
Born in Ukraine, Feb. 2, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Dorothy
and Harry Horechuk.
Sophie is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Gerald) McNeil, Boston;
son, Wayne (Martina) King, New Glasgow; brother-in-law, Albert Koziel;
grandchildren, Dale (Shawn) Rodgers, Natasha and Mason King;
great-grandchildren, Bryan, Brittany and Tyler Rodgers; special
'grandson' Kirk Danyluk; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, Mike and Joe Horechuk, sister, Mary
Koziel, grandson, Kenny McNeil.
Visitation will be held Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Curry Funeral Home,
775 Main St., Glace Bay. Panahyda will be 7:30 p.m. Friday. Funeral
Saturday 10 a.m. in the Curry Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. P. Rudnik
officiating. A private burial at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial
Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Also if anyone is familiar with this family, her parents are listed as
Harry and Dorothy Horechuk.
There is a marriage record for Mike Horechuk in 1927 with parents
Harry Horechuk and Eudokia Denak which is a pretty good fit
considering the time, place and rarity of the name. Its possible
Eudokia choose Dorothy as a more fitting Canadian name, though Eudokia
doesn't translate to Dorothy, at least not from Polish, Ukrainian etc.
