LILLAIN MELVA (ANDREWS) CARABIN - 89 YRS
CARABIN, Lillian Melva Dominion/Sydney It is with broken hearts that we announce the
passing of our much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend on
November 14, 2019. She passed away peacefully eight months after the death of her husband
and soul mate Buddy, surrounded by family at Harbourstone Enchanced Care. After a life of
loving, caring for others and one of the kindest and gentlest souls Melva was called back
home into God’s care and Dad’s waiting arms. Born in Dominion on July 1, 1931 Melva was
the youngest daughter of the late Florence and Hec Andrews and the last surviving member
of her immediate family. In 1952 Melva married the love of her life, Buddy and lived in
Dominion where they raised their family until moving to Sydney eighteen years ago. They
were married for 66 wonderful years. Mom was absolutely devoted to her family and friends,
making sure everyone’s needs were met. No matter the circumstances she always had a smile
and warm words of love. Mom loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. It
didn’t matter how big or small the adventure was as long as Dad was with her. Her favorite
place was the “bungalow” in Ingonish where all were welcomed with open arms and “Buddy,
where’s the tea”. Mom’s greatest joy in life was her family. Melva is survived by
daughter, Elise (Jim) MacKinnon; sons, Bruce (Patti-Ann), Paul (Elaine); grandchildren,
Peter and Erin MacKinnon, Mark (Lauren), Colin Carabin, Patrice (Matt) Aboud, Glen
(Brittany), Brent (Ryan), Grant (Carla) and Ian Carabin; great-grandchildren, Jensen and
Parker Aboud, Blake and Sadie Carabin. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who
held a special place in her heart, especially, Karen. Besides her parents she was also
predeceased by her loving husband, Buddy; sisters, Ruth and Alda. There will be no
visitation. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Melva’s life will be Tuesday,
November 19th at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Trinity Avenue, Sydney, with a
luncheon to follow. Burial in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are
under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford
902-862-7500. Donations in memory of Melva can be made to a charity of one's choice.
