Anne Shirley Doucette
Born: December 8th, 1941
Passed on: September 27th, 2014
Anne Shirley Doucette, 72, formerly of Sydney, N.S., passed away peacefully at Ocean View
Manor in Dartmouth, N.S. with family members present.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Adelaide (Delaney) Lever,
She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Charles, brothers, Bill, James Leo, Cornelius,
Theodore, and Leroy; sisters, Theresa, Helen, Ethel and Shirley Anne.
“Shirl the Whirl” is survived by daughters Shirlene and Deanne, both of Dartmouth, N.S.;
sons Paul (Heather), Quispamsis, N.B. and Greg, Toronto, Ont.; grandchildren Daniel,
Grace, Luke, Jenna and Erika. Also surviving are sisters Stella (late Murdock) Campbell
and Lorna Lever both of Glace Bay; brothers, Fred Lever (Anita), Milton, On, John
Lever,Toronto, Ont., Harold (late Annette) Lever and Dennis (Helen) Lever both of Glace
Bay, and Sonny (M.C.) Ajax, Ont.
Shirl lived life to the fullest and enjoyed spending time with family and good friends.
She was an active member of St. Theresa’s Parish and a dedicated member of the CWL for
many years. Well ... she loved entertaining, laughing, good music, telling a story, happy
hours in Iona, embracing the seasons, and Sundays in #11.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. in Saint Theresa’s Church,
Sydney with visitation at Chant Funeral home from 12-1:30 prior to the funeral mass. There
will be a reception following the funeral mass at St. Theresa’s Parish hall. Interment
will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Ocean View Manor, Eastern Passage
N.S., or a charity of choice.

Madeline 'Mamie' (Worobel) Postlewaite

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Madeline Carol
Postlewaite on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, in the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit at the Cape
Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Jan. 23, 1945, in Sydney, Madeline was the daughter of the late William and Annie
She was predeceased by her husband, Gus in 2003; brother, Michael Worobel in 2013;
sisters-in-law, Mary Worobel and Brenda Postlethwaite; brothers-in-law, Wayne Dawe and
Eric Postlethwaite and mother and father-in-law, Eric and Nellie (Dean) Postlethwaite.
Madeline will be sadly missed by her children, Michelle (Glenn) Campbell, Kandra (Robert)
Mercer and Gus (Cathy) and grandchildren, Jakob, Tanner, Bobbie-Anne, Ceilidh, Connor and
Danica. She is also survived by her siblings, Stephanie (Wayne) Dawe, Anna (John) Dooley,
Ollie (Pat) Randazzo, Alex (Ellen) Worobel, Donald Worobel and Walter (Mitzi) Worobel;
sister-in-law, Eleanor Worobel; and several nieces and nephews.
“Ma” was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and baba. She was a caregiver to her husband and
mother during their lengthy illnesses. For several years, she was employed with the Cape
Breton Regional School Board, retiring in 2004 and was also employed at the Gaum Clinic in
Whitney Pier. Madeline was a member of Holy Ghost parish and the Ukrainian Women’s Club.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed solving puzzles and playing cards, especially tarabish and
crib. In her younger years, she loved to bowl. Ma had a soft spot for animals, especially
her cat, Tinkerbell.

the many volunteers who gave their time providing excellent care and compassion to
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation and a private family service will be held
at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. A celebration of Madeline’s life will take place from
12-2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 146 Kennedy Ave., Sydney.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Jean Hudson (Bill), Hilda Scott (Martin) and Lucy
Baggs; brothers, Allen, Bill, Fred and Arch and nephews, Lloyd (Wayne), Blenis and
grandnephew, Carter; sister-in-law, Alice (Michael) Almond; brother-in-law, Charles
Finlayson and in-laws, Walter (Veronica) Finlayson.
Pearl is survived by her loving husband, Melvin; one sister, Lillian Hollett, Grand Banks,
Nfld.; nephews, Bill (Joyce), East Bay, Roy (Verna), Scarborough, Ont. and several other
nieces and nephews. Also survived by her sister-in-law, Ann (Arnold) Murphy, Reserve
We would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. David Ley for his years of care and
very special thanks to the caring nurses and staff at the Seaview Manor.
Cremation has taken place. A private interment will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct.
1st at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating.

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Josephine Campbell, on Sunday, Sept. 28,
2014, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Mill Creek on Feb. 8, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sabina
Mom was a very caring and gentle person, who enjoyed the company of family and friends.
She was famous for her coconut cream pies, and always willing to share them.
She is survived by her children, her sons, Gary (Wendy) and Darrell (Monuella); her
daughters, June (Brent) Evans, Carol MacIntyre, Lynn Holloway and Marina (Brian) Mullins.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tammy, Angela, Jordan, Vanessa, Troy,
Laurie-Ann, Alana, Glenda, David, Jimmie, Jason, Chantelle and Brianna; 15
great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Aloysuis 'Wishie'
Campbell in 1990; sisters, Viola (Campbell), Dorothy (Quinn), Hazel (Campbell) and Francis
(Jessome) and by brothers, Clarence, Patrick, Leo, Garfield, Melvin, Buddy, and Gary,
three in infancy; three sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law. She was the last
surviving member of both families.
Visitation for Josephine Campbell will be held Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, from 2-4 & 7-9
p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. The funeral service will be
held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod
officiating. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery. A reception will be held in the
parish hall, after the burial.
