As time passes we all lose a loved one. We have lost our mother, Oma,
Bisabuela, sister and good friend.
On July 26, 2012 Saint Peter opened the gates to allow her to spend
eternal life with her saviour, Jesus Christ.
Born in Sydney, Evelyn was the eldest daughter of the late Bernie and
Marion (Burt) Ley. Evelyn worked for over 34 years for Maritime
Tel&Tel as an operator/supervisor. She was a valued employee with a
strong work ethic. After her retirement she volunteered with various
organizations such as New Beginnings as a co-ordinator, Saint
Joseph's and Saint Alphonsus' youth ministry, Cursillo at Villa
Madonna and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. "Ma" was know for her
deep love and great devotion to all her children and grandchildren.
As in her last words when she expressed her thoughts to the
palliative care doctor " I not only love them, I adore them".
Evelyn is survived by her five children, Tom, Ottawa, Ont., Darlene
(Kip) Hannigan, Coldbrook, N.S., Raylene (Doug), Barrie, Ont.,
Darrell and Shaun, both from Victoria Mines. Grandchildren, Keith,
Cayle, Christopher, Shannon, Kendra, Mitchell, Farrah, Alec and
Kaitlyn. Great-grandchildren, Thomas, Sarah, Lucie, Sophie, Rowen and
another on the way. Brothers, Gord (Kathy) Ley, Bill (Alice) Ley,
Donnie (Sandy) Ley, Brian (Tonya) Ley. Sisters, Myrna (Pat) Delaney,
Diane MacInnis, Florence Sampson, Debbie (Dave) Mullins;
sister-in-law, Marie Delaney as well as many nieces, nephews and

A celebration of Evelyn's life will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012
at 2 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexander St.,
Sydney, with Fr. Bedford Doucette officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the
Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of ones choice.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Earl Roderick
Flynn on July 25, 2012, with his loving niece Patsy by his side
Born in Glace Bay on Jan. 27, 1949, he was a son of the late William
and Emily (MacPherson) Flynn.
Earl was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and was employed
for many years as a social worker at the Nova Scotia Provincial
Building in Sydney before his retirement.
He spent many years as a volunteer with CID (Canadian Involvement
with the Disabled) and held the position of past president.
At the time of his death, Earl was president of LEO (Nova Scotia
League for Equal Opportunities) and received an award in 2006 for his
contributions to the disability movement. Earl worked tirelessly
assisting and improving the quality of life for individuals with
disabilities. He spent many hours lobbying, fundraising and fighting
for human rights for all.
Earl will be forever remembered as a sensitive, kind, dedicated human
being who brightened the lives of those who had the privilege to know
him. He could always been seen taking his daily walks, often wearing
his Toronto Maple Leafs jersey; he was a proud fan.
Earl will be sadly missed by his family and friends. His
thoughtfulness and warm heartedness will never be forgotten.
Earl is survived by brothers, Joseph (Helen), Kentville, Darrell
(Eileen), Glace Bay; stepson, William Peterson, New Brunswick;
sister-in-law, Olga Flynn, Glace Bay; nieces, Patsy (Barry),
Emily-Grace, both of Glace Bay; nephews, Danny (Christine), Donkin,
Mark, Ontario, Patrick, Halifax; grandnieces, Brianna, Yarmouth,
Danielle, Donkin; grandnephew, Jonathan, Glace Bay.
Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by brothers, William
Frederick 'Freddy,' John Francis, niece, Elizabeth Ann Flynn in
Visitation will be held Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
A funeral mass to celebrate the love we have for Earl will be held
Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. John's Church with Fr. Leo Boone
officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Earl's memory to the Lung
Association of Nova Scotia, Spina Bifida Association, Nova Scotia
Branch, CI., or NSLEO.

As time passes, we all lose a loved one that is dear to us. We have
lost our mother, grandmother and beloved wife, Marie Elizabeth (Jobe)
Harrietha, who passed to God's presence on July, 26, 2012
Marie was the daughter of the late John Francis Jobe, Sugarloaf and
Jessie Francis (Walsh-Jobe) Anderson, Sydney Mines. She was a devout
Catholic and active in parish life of Immaculate Conception Church,
Marie is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Lavato Harrietha
of Sydney Mines; her four children, Theresa, Johnny, Sirena (Alex)
Jessome, and Noelle (Sam) Hodder; eight grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John Jobe,
Miramichi, N.B. and sister, Eileen Dolomont, North Sydney.
Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her son, Lavatino,
sisters, Catherine Young, Marcella Cadwell and brother, Marty

It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of
Helen MacKay, formerly of Beverley Avenue, Mira Road, on Friday, July
27, 2012, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney.
Born in Loch Lomond to the late John and Sarah (MacLeod) MacKeigan.
Always involved in her community, Helen was a loving lady who was
always there to help in any way possible. A wonderful baker, she made
many beautiful wedding cakes, including those for her two sons.
For many years, Helen owned and operated Mira Road Convenience. In
that time, she became a dear friend to all who knew her. Helen also
worked at the IGA and Cove Guest Home. She loved to laugh, play
tricks and enjoy a good time with family and friends.
She is survived by her loving sons, Willard (Cora) and Kent (Margie),
both of Sydney; grandchildren, Ronnie (Carol), Sarah, Kent (Shauna)
and Kyle; great-grandchildren, Craig (Samantha), Kohlton, Carter,
Kailey, Cameron, Brenna and Mikayla; sisters, Annie (Earl) MacDonald,
Grand River and Harena Palmer, Truro; many nieces, nephews and

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial
Chapel. Visitation will take place at Bethel Presbyterian Church at
11 a.m. on Monday, followed by a memorial service at noon, with Rev.
Dr. Murdock J. MacRae officiating. A reception will be held in the
Loch Lomond Community Centre following the interment at MacKeigan
Cemetery, Lake Uist.

It is with immense sadness we announce the sudden passing of Pauline
O'Quinn, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt on July 23,
2012 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Pauline was a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club, enjoyed
line dancing, darts, bowling but most all she looked forward to her
bingo nights with her sisters.
Survived by daughters, Barbara Currie, Susan Campbell-Jessome (Rob),
Bonnie France (John), Linda O'Quinn (Scott), Doris O'Quinn (Suzanne),
Marilyn O'Quinn (Alwyn) and Dolly Bailey; sisters, Sadie Pastuck
(Raymond), Frances Campbell (Danny), Rose Lewis (Cam), Heidi
MacDonald (Stanley), Tracey Wright and Elaine Lamey (Tony);
grandchildren, Ken, Glen Parsons, Cindy Cranstoun, Robert O'Quinn,
Dawn Alcott, Sherri Curley, John, Christopher, Daniel France, Tyler,
Richard, Jeanene O'Quinn, Ronnita Oliviera, Raymond Delima and Vinca

She was predeceased by parents, Paul and Mary (Anthony) Halnuck;

A chapel service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. at
Mclellan Brother Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford with
Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial to follow in St. Agnes Cemetery
and a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent Street.

She was a resident of West Roxbury, Ma.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Rebecca
She was a retired nurse from the United States Navy. Kay had a
tremendous love for skating from her early days at the Glace Bay
Forum to her life in Boston, Ma.
She is survived by three sisters, Sara Beaton, Jo and Chris McEachern
