I did some research several years ago into an Ann Flower who married into a CUTTS family
in 1757 at Nottm. St. Mary - and came across a Master Mariner at Stockwith in 1825. I
found several Flower families in the villages near Newark. (I did not come to any
West Stockwith was an inland port on the River Trent, near Gainsborough, and charged
cheaper tolls than Kingston on Hull. It linked with the Canal system which was a
popular form of transport for heavy goods at that period. Goods from London were shipped
to West Stockwith for Derbyshire clients.
I think you should consider that William may have travelled along the waterways and could
have married at any stop along the way.
In one of my lines I have three males who 'walked' from Leicestershire to Barking,
Essex, to another branch of the family in order to find work - one of them marrying at
Poole, Dorset along the way. Luckily I found another member of the family who had the
proof from his grandparents.
A study of the map of England shows it is not a straight route - probably working as
labourers on canal boats to earn their passage?

Subject : [NTT] Sarah Ann Flower
My ggg grandmother is Sarah Ann Flower born Notts 1773. Trying to confirm
who her parents were.
If her parents were in born in Nottingham I cant find anything.
Her parents are William Flower and Mary.
However the only entry I can see is for a marriage in East Knoyle Wiltshire
which may or may not be
her father and mother
This William is born in Somerset.
