The Society of Genealogists online data has him born 1760-61 in
Nottinghamshire (but with no evidence cited) and died there in 1837. He
was married in Nottingham to Elizabeth Sophia Boott in 1798. The Notts
Poll Book in their records for 1818 records him as
Grey , John. general, Ruddington. I don't know anything about
Poll-books, but assume that means he was eligible to vote.
Notts FHS data says John GREY married Eliza Sophia BOOTE at Nottingham
St Peter 7.6.1798.
However, Notts baptisms are less helpful. There are 2 John GRAYs in the
period. Baptised 6.3.1757 was John GRAY, son of Thomas and Ann in
Gringley on the Hill, and on 29.7. 1759 John GRAY, son of James and Eliz
was baptised in Egmanton. Neither seems likely.
Good luck with the search...
