Alfred george Williams married Helen Agnes Dawson in 1872 in Suez, Egypt. He was a
telegrapher and worked in Scotland, Aden, Newfoundland, and Brooklyn, New York. He gave
his birthplace as both Hull and Gateshead. He said his father was born in Wales.
Mary Harriet and Edmund were boarders at Helen Dawson’s house in Nottingham in the 1871
Our family records have Marie Sybille Van Den Resch as the mother. She was a midwife in
Bruges, Belgium. She died and Henry married Mary (Polly) Taylor. The marriage didn’t last.
He abandoned the family, either to become a monk or commit suicide.
Our records have Walter marrying Rachel Pepper and having a son Walter Hedley Williams and
a daughter Annie Van Den Resch Williams.
Supposedly Edmund emigrated to Australia.
Family stories said that Henry Williams had a brother who was a coffee, tea and spice
merchant and one who worked for the Bank of England.
