I have a marriage document signed by both the bride and groom in
Nottinghamshire, in 1667. There was even a correction of the spelling of the
bride's surname by the curate. I assume the bride drew this to his attention. I
was wondering if anyone out there might tell me what types of people (stations
of life, work) might have had the oppotunity to learn to read and write during
this period. Was it common?
Thanks for all help.
