I am trying to trace the parents of Mary Dennis who married Thomas Bishop at
Stanford-Upon-Soar 22 Feb 1762, and was buried 6 June 1802 at
If any one can help me with this information I will be most grateful.
As you have probably gathered, the baptism of Mary DENNIS is not in the
IGI... and would have been about 1742 or earlier.
Some lateral thinking is required:
Look for male DENNIS marriages in that same area pre 1742 for probable
and... there is only one:
15 July 1734 at Gotham
"Thomas DENNIS, of Sutton Bonnington St. Michael's, & Elizabeth LANE, of
West Leake, by licence".
so.... now go look at the baptism registers of:
Sutton Bonnington, St. Michael
Stanford on Soar
between July 1734 and 1743.
If you can't find her there, then look at the register for West Leake
for the baptism of a Mary LANE, illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth LANE,
pre July 1734. (Before the marriage of the parents). It's surprising how
often one can pick up "missing" people with that little trick ;-)
