My big dead-end on the family tree is the origins of one Robert
WHITAKER, who may (or may not), have been born about 1772. He
turned up at Nuthall, Notts., when he married Ann REPPEN in 1796.
The index of marriage licences said he was aged 21, but the copy
of the licence (from the Nottm University dept. of Manuscripts)
said "over 21"
I got the approximate birth date from the burial of a Robert
WHITAKER at Nottm. St. Nicholas in 1828 aged 56, abode -
Pavement. I think this was my Robert because in 1825, just a few
years earlier, and at the same church, there was a burial of one
Ann WHITAKER age 50 - abode - Castle Gate. This fits exactly
with the known baptism of Ann REPPEN.
I have seen the 1822 Rates Book for the parish of St. Nicholas,
and a Robert Whittaker was a rate payer for a property on Castle
Gate at that time, but I have been unable to find a will.
I would like to know if anyone else can lay claim to this Robert
& Ann Whitaker, or if anyone can advise me where to go from here.
