The British Newspapers Archive went live this morning. They have digitised
newspapers from across the country, including all the major local ones.

I have tried it this morning and needless to say have found some interesting
articles (well the headlines at least) but it does suffer the symptoms of
digitising poor quality paper and print, in that there is a lot of
gobbledygook appearing in the translation from the actual printed word
It is free to register and access the database, but there is a subscription
cost for getting a copy of the actual report. However, there are many
libraries with newspapers on film, such as The Local Studies section at
Nottingham Central Library, and I for one will be using it to identify
articles and more importantly the issue date. I will then go to the Central
Library to look it up and take a copy, avoiding having to trawl through
days, months, and indeed years of pages.
