Subject : Andrew Kay, Baker, b 1835 Hognaston.
I am trying to build up the profile for the following KAY family and hoping to link to the Kay/Key family from S.Wingfield and Radford, Nottingham who married into my GARTON family . Very difficult families due to many spellings of Key, Kay, Kea, etc.
I have just begun to dig more deeply into the Kay/Key backgrounds and links with the Butterley, Riddings, Somercotes, Skegby areas where my grandmother, nee Elizabeth TAYLOR, was born in 1867, dau of Immanuel/Emmanuel TAYLOR b. S. Wingfield 1835.
She was first child of his second marriage to Sarah Ann PARKER after the tragic death of his first wife, Emily DAWES, post childbirth.
The Kays were cotton spinners and lived in the area around The White Horse, Ilkeston Road, Radford, and the Cotton Mill closeby.
Andrew KAY -
son of William - baptised 5.7.1835 Wirksworth.
So far have found -
1841 - missing.
1851 - a farm servant with Samuel and Martha KAY, farmer b 1795 Ashleyhay - presumably an uncle?
1861 - a Baker at 1 South Parade, Alfreton, aged 27, with John FARNSWORTH, also a Baker, wife and son.
1867 - marries Elizabeth Whittle FRECK, b. 1846 Radford, Nottingham.
1871 - missing. Presumably remains in the Alfreton area.
1881 - Andrew and family at Market Place, Riddings, a baker
1891 - missing, presumably still at Market Place?
1901 - Andrew and family at Market Place, Riddings
1911 - Andrew, wife and two children at High Street, Riddings. He dies that year.
Would be interested in hearing from anyone researching same Kay family.
