Okay, if it's okay with everyone who seem so reluctant to kick me out, I am
declaring the nomination period over.
Oh, and I guess I should say, I accept the nomination. LOL
So, if we all agree, I declare myself the winner!
Thanks for your vote of confidence. I hope to be making some updates this
coming year.
After reviewing the current Guidelines posted on the NJGenWeb state site, I
see that the protocol was to elect an SC for a 2 year term; that the
election process was to begin on or about February 1 of election year;
voting to follow; and to take office as of April 1 in that election year.
So, at this point, let's let it be known that my new term will begin on
April 1, 2012 and run through the end of March 2014. Yikes! You guys have
been stuck with me for a while now. LOL I'll try to do my best to live up
to your confidence in me.
I'd like to hear privately from those who think they would like to assist
me as an ASC. Please write me at SCNewJersey(a)gmail.com.
We are going to review and revise the Guidelines, Rules, etc. to be sure
they are in alignment with and do not conflict with the National
Guidelines, etc. I really would like to have ALL coordinators input on
these. Most of you have been reticent, reluctant or non-participating.
This is your project.... the county you have adopted is your project....
but I really want and need all of you to participate in these
conversations, even if it is to agree, disagree and/or propose an
alternative. We have potentially one of the best groups in USGenWeb if we
all just step it up a little bit. I can't do all of this by myself. I can
come up with ideas. I can type rapidly and I can make a huge difference,
but it takes a team. We are a team. We don't have to be like other
states, although several of them have an amazing contingent of folks who
pull together. Iowa has done amazing things in their state. Also, North
Carolina is awesome. It's because everyone pulls together.
We have 2 counties that have gone without a coordinator for quite some
time. We need them adopted. Who do you know that could make a difference
for those orphan counties? Help me help New Jersey!
The rules are still in place and will probably remain that we have roll
call once a month. Some folks don't like that. We are a small state, but
you coordinators are a quiet bunch. Many states are a bit quiet, but they
are diligently working on their sites. I've got a busy life also, but I
try to do something for my counties as often as possible. Search the
archives.org for old material that can make a difference. That is how I
found a book that had lists of births, marriages and deaths in one chapter
of the out-of-copyright book. I have put those online now. Births,
Deaths, Groom List and Bride List. I snoop around to see what I can find.
I need each of you to take on every couple of months to seek something
out to add. If I find something for your county, I'll send the link to you.
I have often been known to transcribe material and send to other
coordinators. That could happen here. But the bottom line is that we need
our coordinators to begin getting new material added. I'm not opposed to
providing links, but I want to see NEW things on the sites.
One thing I would like added to each site (and I hope I don't hear a big
grown), is a *What's New?* page. I myself will have to add that same type
of page to all of my county sites. I have that kind of page on my Indiana
counties of Marion and Noble.
Here is my Marion County, INGenWeb site as an example-
https://sites.google.com/site/marioncountyingenweb/what-s-new
So, I am going to make it a* requirement* that everyone adds a WHAT'S NEW?
page by April 1, 2012. That gives you all a little less than 2 months to
get it started. The same goes for me. Let's all try to have at least a
couple of new items added. The What's New? link will be required on the
main page of your county site. Place the material on your site where you
would normally put the material. Then have a link to What's New? on your
main index page. Place the month and year on your What's New? page and
then under that in a paragraph with links to the material, add each item.
If you get the page started and then when you add material, just go update
that page with the new item with the words and link to that material.
Please use my page above as a sample.
So, let's rock New Jersey and make this one of the best states out there on
USGenWeb through working together, sharing material with each other and
getting some new things online. I truly believe we can do this, but I
can't do it alone.
So, please put April 1 on your calendar. Start a calendar for your county
and what you want to get done for it. Set some goals for yourself and your
county. I know setting goals is the best way for me to get things done. I
know I'm not the only one who needs that kind of impetus, so let's kick
butt this year! What do you say?
Thanks everyone. I'm sure I'll be bothering you all soon. LOL
Sincerely
Denise
