Denise here for SC and Hudson and Bergen Counties.
Whew! I just went through a huge move, and of course there is lots more to do.
I moved from a large 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath on a lake with a 2 car garage (used mostly for
storage), to a 1 bedroom bungalow with no garage on the beach. Moved from Boca Raton
(inland) to Miami Beach! It will be a good move when I finally get settled in. Plus
actually going to save a lot of money. Probably over $1,500 a month from running that
house to running this bungalow! It has a large Florida room that we are going to insulate
(has an air conditioner in it) for my daughter's bedroom for while she is here. She
is getting ready to go off to college in January, which is one of the big reasons for this
move. My son is just across the walkway from me in his 1 bedroom (about 10 feet from door
to door! LOL) Already saving money there. using his wifi for my computers. My bungalow
is about twice the size of his as I have a HUGE living room with the high wood beamed
ceilings and a fireplace. Yes, I said, fireplace in Miami Beach. Many of these units in
this area do not h!
ave furnaces! Last winter my son about froze during the cold snap down here.
Unfortunately, once you get assimilated to the warm weather here, 60 is then cold! Hard
to believe, right? LOL
Anyway, my living room looks like a storage barn itself at the moment until I can begin
going through boxes and pitching, giving away and maybe selling lots of things I am now
committed to getting rid of. Plus at some point I'm going to begin a huge scanning
project of much of my materials so I don't have hard copies of everything.
Anyway, I'm going to be using much of August to work and go through boxes of things.
I think it's time we also got the bylaws revised along with working on a few other
items in New Jersey. Those of you with suggestions, please let me hear from you.
The National Election is now closed and the outcome will be known shortly. Most of you
know that I have been the SEMA CC Rep for the past two years. For many reasons, I threw
my name into the hat again. We have been very busy on the Advisory Board along with
handling numerous controversial issues. Please know that in all my work on the AB my
first commitment is to the CCs of the entire project and most of all for my NJ
coordinators and for the SEMA region. We have been very fortunate that things have gone
well in New Jersey. It is my commitment that that continues. Life is too short for
arguing and infighting.
We also need to have an election and are, in fact, overdue. I would love for 2 people to
take on being an election committee to manage an election for New Jersey. I will
definitely keep my hat in the ring as there is much that I would like to do for New
Jersey; however, our by-laws call for an election. Do I hear any volunteers to take on
the election committee for us? Even if, for some reason, I am the only person willing to
run (and I am not assuming that to be the case), we should have an election and make
everything official for the NJGenWeb.
I think we should hold the nominations and election first before we take on revising the
by-laws, but I want to hear from all of you as to what you want. Then we can move
forward. And please, it is important that we all participate. We are a small group, but
full participation would be truly appreciated.
What do you all think and want to do? Please let me know.
Also, we need to begin taking a look at everyone's sites and be sure that we are all
in compliance with the National Guidelines and Bylaws and our own bylaws and use that as a
place to start looking at what you want for New Jersey. Remember, our state bylaws cannot
conflict with the National.
I think I would also like to hear from those of you who might be interested in becoming
the NJ Webmaster to manage the state page. I am the first to admit that I am not a
webpage genius, but I know that many of you are much better at that than I. If you are a
great resource for that type of thing, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.
I would also love everyone's participation to the extent that you are able. I would
like to see New Jersey become one of the most visited sites in USGenWeb. Who's with
me on that one?
Any questions, just let me know.
Thanks so much, and I am looking forward to whatever comes our way the rest of this year
and next.
Denise
