POSITIONS AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY!!!
The State Archives is receiving applications for several part-time (up
to 35 hours weekly) staff positions needed to assist with preparations
for relocating the Archives to its new facility in 1999. Below are
official job descriptions for three (3) types of positions offered.

be given for completing a formal application and scheduling interviews.
Job location: State Archives, 185 W. State St., Trenton.
Work days/times: M-F, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Term of employment: January - June 1999
Parking arrangements: To be determined.
Benefits: Social Security paid; no other benefits.

Part-Time Position Type #1 (Archivist II)
Duties: Collection Management
Housing and rehousing bound volumes, foldered material, maps,
photographs, microfilm and other records in archival containers.
Creating content and location inventories, collection guides,
researching content notes and legislative histories, and/or indexes for
these materials using word-processing and database management software.
Labeling archival materials and microfilm collections.
Moving and shifting collections within the Archives' existing stack
areas as necessary.
Creating database records for cataloged record series, accessions,
and container and reel contents using the State Archives' automated
access system.
Supervising paraprofessional and/or clerical staff supporting this
work.
Duties: Reference
Assisting researchers in the Archives' public search room with
historical, legal and genealogical research.
Instructing and assisting researchers in use of microfilm equipment.
Assisting existing staff in answering basic mail and telephone
inquiries, or directing inquiries to the appropriate professional staff
person.
Assisting Reference Supervisor with mail reference (including
pricing/making/sending out photocopies of documents).
Retrieving manuscripts requested by researchers from the Archives'
stack areas and returning them to their locations.
Supervising use of archival materials by the public.
Related duties as required
Educational Requirements:
M.L.S. or M.A. in history or a related field.
Other Requirements:
Ability to lift 40-lb. containers repetitively, 50-150 times daily.
Valid driver's license.
Experience working in an archives or academic library preferred.
Familiarity with principles of MARC-AMC and/or book cataloging a
plus.
Hourly Wage: $18-20/hour commensurate with experience.

Part-Time Position Type #2 (Archives Technician)

Part-Time Position Type #3 (Reference Assistant)
Duties: Reference
Assisting researchers in the Archives' public search room with
historical, legal and genealogical research.
Instructing and assisting researchers in use of microfilm equipment.
Assisting existing staff in answering basic mail and telephone
inquiries, or directing inquiries to the appropriate professional staff
person.
Assisting Reference Supervisor with mail reference (including
pricing/making/sending out photocopies of documents).
Retrieving manuscripts requested by researchers from the Archives'
stack areas and returning them to their locations.
Supervising use of archival materials by the public.
Duties: Collection Management
Assisting Collection Management staff with inventorying, indexing and
labeling of archival materials and microfilm collections.
Related duties as required
Educational Requirements:
Preference will be given to applicants with post-high school
education (A.A. or B.A.).
Other Requirements:
Ability to lift 40-lb. containers repetitively, 50-15 times daily.
Good inter-personal communication skills and interest in working with
the public.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience working in an
archives or library.
Hourly Wage: $9-$14/hour commensurate with experience.
