Greetings.... i am new to this list and am trying to track down history on a relation
James Henry McGEOCH who apparently died in Auckland in 1880 or thereabouts.
Family folklore states...""James Henry McGeoch (from n.e.Victoria Australia)
won the Victorian Chess Championship and went to New Zealand in 1880 to contest and where
he won the British Empire Chess Championship"" .........
Unfortunately, whilst celebrating his win he fell down a flight of stairs broke his
neck and died.
James Henry McG, was a fond whisky drinker and it has been suggested that he had more
to drink that night than water!!---- prior to his accident.
I believe that James Henry McGEOCH is buried in Auckland....
BUT::::: can some SKS find out for me if at all possible the death date and where he is
buried.....or if possible are NZ BDM on internet access?? ..Then i can look for newspaper
article listing account of death??
Maybe i can help someone with interest of Albury/Wodonga areas,if so please contact.
