Hi Graham and everyone,
John MacFarlane was a co-pptr with his
brother Henry and brother in law Thomas Maxwell Henderson, in the Commercial
Hotel in Auckland, John and Thomas being the owners. Henry retired in 1845
and moved to Hawaii. Thomas owned the Henderson Mill in the area now known
as Henderson and later with John started an import-export company with their
surnames Henderson MacFarlane. Thomas went on to become New Zealand's first
shipping company owner. I have very little information on John MacFarlane
except it is said he arrived on the London 12/12/1840 with some of his
siblings and by 31st December 1840 was in Auckland with Thomas M Henderson.
One of the trees mention in the newspaper notice is Kauri.
Regards John Reed
