Not all of the Admission Certs etc are kept at the school. They were
sent to the Wellington Education Board //now defunct. and the data
stored at National Archives in Wellington. I have picked up old
registers from schools as far back as 1890 there. However the school will
be able to tell you.
HVMTC was the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College in Buick St Petone.
Established post WW1. It was for the lesser lights of those days who
could not get their Primary Proficiency Cert. in English and arithmetic
and concentrated on Manual subjects as well as Core.Sevareal kids from
my primary school went there as son as they turned 14.
It developed and had a good music background until the 1960'2 when it
was pushed aside by the Central Institute of Technology, which took over
its main buildings. after a period in prefabs a new school was
established on Gear Island , near Wilford St, Petone as a multi-course
co-ed. I do not recall its new name but recently it's standards fell
below requirements and it was forced to close by the Ed Dept. It was
amalgamated I think, with Hutt Valley High School.
Hope this is of help,ClydeH
ex CIT Tutor 1966-1979 and HVHS pupil 1943-46
Can SKS tell me where the above named school is, if it is still
operating and if possible where the School Admissions Registers for it
are held? Also, what does the HVMTC stand for? I think it is Hutt
Valley.Training College perhaps???
Cheers & Thanks
