Subject: Robert Rowland
Dear all
Whilst sorting out some family papers I recently came across a letter written by CC
Batterman, Superintendent of Mines, Gould and Curry Mining Co. Ltd in April 1870 detailing
the death of an ancestor of my wife Robert Rowland in the Gould and Curry main shaft,
Virginia City in September 1869. The letter details the circumstances of death and
indicates that Robert Rowland was buried at the companys expense in Virginia City.
Nevada is a long way from Wales therefore could anyone give some pointers where I can
find more information about this accident. Would a death certificate have been issued?
Where would the death have been recorded? How may graveyards were there in Virginia City
in 1869? Do the graveyards still exist? Where are the records held and how can I access
them?
So many questions!!
Thank you in advance for any assistance
