Smith, Nevada was located on West Walker River in Lyon County. it was named
for the predominant name in herdsmen who settled there in August of 1859.
There are several offshoots of the name Smith, but this is the settlement.
I will mention the fact that SMITHS (with an "s") was a RR station, now
defunct, in Washoe County, so be sure that the name was Smith and not
Smiths.
Good Luck
