Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Due to a corruption in my Netscape Messenger files I had to export my
folders and mail to Outlook Express. The good news is that I am no longer
losing messages, but I understand OE has more security problems.
Hoping that the problems were lost in the transfer, I would now like to
export the Outlook Express files and Import back into Netscape Messenger.
OE provides no help and the Netscape help information does not work as the
OE file format is different from what is mentioned.
Can anyone help? Also, has anyone else had trouble with losing email,
once the messages in the Inbox reached 4000? I have others in nearly 100

I also use 4.73. I have read reviews that say the new communicator 6
beta is lean and fast. I think I tried it, and I found the whole thing to
be rather confusing, and I did not notice any increase in speed, at least
on my 200mmx pentium.
As for your question, I do not know. I have never received an e-mail
with sound. Can you tell us more about this. A sound file is like any
other file. it would be sent as a file attachment to the e-mail. All you
have to do to launch the sound file is click on the file name you see in
the e-mail. your media player will recognize the file type and will open
and play the sound. What you are asking for is an automatic execution of
a file attachment. This is very dangerous because it could be a
virus. So, by default no file attachment would be allowed to execute
as a safety precaution for your computer. This is just my opinion but it
seems to make sense to me. Are you not able to make the sound play at
I will tell you, that Eudora lite, is FREE and comes with a neat program
called PURE Voice. What you do is open Eudora and it has a plug in for
purevoice. you click on pure voice and a tape recorder pops up. now, you
just start to record, speak into your microphone and it will record your
voice message. now, you press Send and it goes to the other side. When
the message is received the other party also needs pure voice. they click
on the pure voice file attachment and they hear you speak. the sound
quality is excellent. and the file size is very small. you could talk for
10 minutes and it would only be about one meg file size.
I love this program, but have discontinued it because can't find others
who are willing to take the time to try it. I don't work for Eudora or
Pure voice. I actually use netscape 4.73, at the moment. Eudora has
released a Eudora Pro version now for free fully functional. I may switch
to that when I get a newer computer. right now, I had to go back to using
my old 386, because I sold my Pentium computer to a relative, so I could
then buy a new computer. The reason, I have not bought the new computer
is because there is too much confusion among the hardware manufacturers,
and they are trying to sort things out. You may have heard of Intels
Rambus fiasco. Unfortunately it seems we will have to wait for the next
Killer chipset since the 440 bx. and it seems close at hand.
I have recently been experiencing problems using Communicator (4.73),
128 bit ver. -
seems as if I cannot any longer open graphic attachments to my email
messages. It first was every once in a while, but now, it's all the
time. I can send attachments (jpg's, etc) with no problem, however, if
I go to my "sent" folder & try to open something that I sent with an
attachment (just to see how it looked), it bombs! Tells me it has
performed an illegal operation & will be shut down --------- gives
"Netscape has caused an invalid page fault in Shell 32.dll at
0137:7fdc14f7" & must shutdown. I have re-loaded Communicator, still I
have this problem. Does this sound familiar to anyone, if so, can you
offer any help/suggestions? I might add that I can take the same
messages that are causing these "crashes" in Communicator & import them
into IE 5.0, they open with no problem there??????
Does anyone on this list have Netscape 4.72 with 128 bit
encryption.I have changed some settings on the SSL v2 and
SSL v3 and don't recall what the defaults are to change them
back.So far I have everything checked on both, but would like
to have them set correctly.I have also noticed that Netscape
is not offering the 4.72 download anymore. Is this because the
4.73 is being offered. To check on the SSL settings, you click
Security on the Task Bar at the top and then click on Navigator.
The advanced Security [SSL]configurations are at the bottom of
page.I am using Windows 95.I hope this list is successful as
it will be a great help to us Newbies.------Joyce
I recently switched from aol to earthlink which requires a communicator.
I have chosed Netscape and bought a book on netscape. Unfortunately
the book barely mentions netscape and email.
I have two earthlink addresses. At this point in order to open the mail
in the second address, I must close and then reopen netscape in order
to read the mail from the second address. Is there another way I can
Is there any written instructions as to how to use netscape with email?
When I am on vacation and don't want to stay connected to the internet
for long periods of time, I frequently answer messages off line and save
them to send later.
Frequently when I go to send messages the next time I connect, I get a
message that there are files of another format in my unsent message
folder that are not messages to be sent. These are messages the program
sent out multiple times last April.
Sometimes the new messages go out, sometimes they go out multiple times
and sometimes nothing in the folder goes out. Each time I delete the
two offending messages, but the nest time I go to send unsent messages
they are back again.
Does anyone have any insights on this issue or have something similar
I am using Netscape 4.73. but it has been occurring through more than
Also, does anyone know the maximum number of messages that can be in
the inbox and the combined folders?
When I go to my.netscape.com (my page loaded on netcape.com) my Check Web Mail
in netcenter apps ALWAYS says I have 0 messages (I could have 1-100 - it
doesn't matter, always says 0).
Anyone else having this problem? When I email netscape.com, I get a canned
message that says they are an automated help center, and can't help with that,
but they don't tell me who to email and the help q's don't cover this! I've
been having this problem for a couple months at least since they performed
