Thanks to everyone who responded and who have helped me out on this,
hopefully I am on my way to clearing up a family mystery.
Another question, would a German American Lutheran church sponser a German
immigrant in 1910 ? if so, wouldn't the immigrant have to live with the
sponser or in the same town of the church ?
I am trying to find out how the Vollstedts connect with my Witt family, Ernst
Johann Witt was born in Torgelow near Rostock I think, that's in Mecklenburg.
He lived in Rostock till he went into the military.
We have a letter dated 1929 from Oklahoma where this Rev. John Vollstedt
lived, he wrote it to Ernst or Ernest Witt telling him about a letter he got
from a Mrs. Herman Stotz who was concerned that she had not heard from Ernest
in a long time. Ernest Witt lived in Elgin, IL.
Mrs. Herman Stotz might have been his sister (Ernest Witt's) but I havn't
found out what her name is.

Scribner is a small town about 10 or 15 km northwest of Fremont. I think
that getting the naturalisation record and death cert. might give you
valuable information on his place of origin. There is a probability of him
coming from Schleswig-Holstein, as more than 40% of todays Vollstedt people
in Germany live in that state of Germany. Also, all 3 villages/towns named
Vollstedt are in Schleswig-Holstein.
It might be worth to subscribe to Rootsweb's Schleswig-Holstein List
and ask for VOLLSTEDT researchers.
I don't search VOLLSTEDT but I have "cousins" that emigrated to
Fremont/Scribner in the 1880s.
