I am searching for a Bert Angell, b. 1875 Michigan. As a young man, he
left home for North Dakota, to my knowledge he lived out his life there.
I have a letter he wrote to the family from Denhoff, Sheridan County.
I am interested in any information anyone may have about Bert and family.
I'm new to this list - and actually not sure how large or active this
particular list is.
I have ancestors that lived in North Dakota from early 1900's - 1930's.
Surnames: MCCLUSKY [yes, as in the town name of McClusky, ND], JOHNSTON,
MCKEE, and possibly NORTON in this county.
I am related to the founder of the town of McClusky, William Henderson
McClusky. He was the older brother of Alexander McClusky, who is my
Richard Henry Johnston was my grandfather - he was an original pioneer in
the town as well, holding whatever office seemed to need to be filled at
the time! After his first wife died while living in McClusky, R.H. married
again to Margaret E. McClusky, Alex's daughter.
My g-g-grandfather, R.H. Johnston [Robert Henry] and his wife Mary Ann also
lived in McClusky for a number of years - at least until 1915.
Richard H.'s sister, Annie Johnston, married S.R. McKee, also residents of
McClusky for awhile, and possibly from the area in Canada that the Johnston
family came from.
Charles Norton may possibly be related - I have not pieced this one
together yet - just realized this in my research today. Alex McClusky
married Gertrude Norton, and when many of the family moved to Western Iowa
before moving to ND, there were a number of Norton relatives in the mix.
In newspaper articles, Charles is mentioned with Alex a couple of times.
I have access to copies of The McClusky Gazette for the years 1905 [was
McLean County paper at the time] until 1915. I will begin to post some
obits, etc. on the Gen Web site. If anyone has any specific requests [you
have to have dates, please] I will be glad to check for any obits,
marriages, etc. for this time period.
