Ole Heggestad Rites Friday at McGregor
Ole Heggestad, one of the early pioneers of Hayland township, died last Friday, Dec.2nd,
in the Tioga hospital, following a period of declining health. He was 83 years old.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 6th, at 2 p.m., at Zion Lutheran church in
McGregor. Rev. Ivan Larsen was the officiating clergyman and burial was in the church
cemetery with Sorenson Funeral Home of Tioga, in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Oscar Halgrimson, Julius Fredrickson, Rueben Grina, George Olson,
Clarence Ravelnig and Olaf Berger.
Born in Sogne, Norway, in 1883, he spent his early life there, was baptized and
confirmed in the Lutheran faith and received his education. In 1901, he came to the
United States and lived at Benson Minn., for a time before coming to Hayland township,
where he filed on a homestead. His marriage to Ellen Heggestad took place Nov. 29th,
1905, and they resided n the homestead until her death in 1964.
Survivors are his two daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Gladys) Olson of McGregor and Mrs. Alvin
(Amy) Forsgren, Everett, Wash., and a son, Ole, of San Leandro, Calif.; six grandchildren
and six great grandchildren.
