A year ago, for some reason unbeknownst to my conscious mind, I ran for a seat on the
Advisory Board. I recall during my run receiving an email from someone asking if I would
stay the whole term or quit half way through like others do. That question perplexed me .
. . why would people run, win, and then quit?
Well, I was elected to the two-year term while Linda Blum-Barton was elected to complete a
remaining year on a two-year term. That is why she was in the position of running again
this year.
Now that I'm a veteran with a WHOLE YEAR under my belt, I can tell you it is a very
tough job. I had no idea how much "politics" was involved in a
"simple" volunteer organization as great as ours. A lot of situations are
brought to the board that kept private - resolved privately, whatever. I can assure you
that the ugliness of some people and some situations sure could turn a person into a
cynic. It is difficult to put your neck out and stand for what you believe in, especially
when it might be the minority opinion in a negative environment.
All of that brings me to my point - Linda and I were both new to the board, and I have
been very impressed with how she has performed. I'm also impressed, and HAPPY, that
she decided to run again. She is fair, balanced, and a genuinely nice and good person. I
have been happy to serve with her representing our region - and she is the better
representative.
If there are any questions you want to ask about the board or anything, let me know. NC
is lucky, I think, in that both Angie and I are honored to serve on the board.
