Ron,
Please give the lists your opinions regarding .........:
1..... the recent change of the GenConnect boards.
***
In a simple reply. I don't like it.
In depth, it was my understanding that GenConnect was to be
the choice tool created for USGW members. I used them.
But I also had copies sent to me of every post.
My opinion is that far less USGW Members will sign up to
use the new
MyFamily.Com version than were using GenConnect.
I probably will not. But each CC has the freedom to choose
what is right for them. That is what is most important.
2. ....continued use of RootsWeb as the primary host for many GenWeb
sites.
***
It will always be my decision that CC's should have the freedom
and discretion to use whatever server they choose. In keeping
with USGW guidelines the server should be in good taste. But
I certainly have no problem with anyone using RW addresses for
thier USGW pages. And as long as USGW is allowed to remain
on RW, without interference, and without Commercial Banners or
other such advertisement, I have no problem with the National
pages being there either.
3. .... what difference your election will have on the Southeast
region and
the USGenWeb as a whole.
***
I can make no claim that my being elected to the Board will have
any certain impact on the Southeast Region, unless the CC's of the
SE are willing to get involved and talk about the issues that are raised
and be heard, as to what is important to them. If the Rep. posts
issues and concerns to the SE list and only two people respond, then
there are only two points of view from which to base the represented
vote. However, if everyone that is in the SE/MA Region, is subscribed
to the SE list and will actively speak to the issues that come before
the
Board, then it very well may have an awesome impact. The position is
about Representing the CC's of the SE/MA Region, not about my own
person views. I would need to hear from them to be able to Represent
them.
4. .... what you think we should be doing and where we are headed
with
your leadership.
***
First it has to be established that the Board, is about a number of
people
all representing a different group. They all have their CC's or SC's
they
have to report to and not all votes will be the same. I could vote
every
vote exactly as the CC's of the SE/MA Region ask, and loose the vote.
I am about people being treated equally. I am about CC's being heard
and about votes being in favor of what is best for the CC's AND the
Project, since the CC's are in fact what the Project is.
I don't think we as a Project should be dating or flirting with
For-Profit
Commercialism.
I don't think the Board should be voting in favor of any measure that
is obviously against what the current Bylaws allow. Doing so does not
help the Project or it's Members, but sets up bad precedence that allows
for bad policy.
I think a committee should have already been established to start
working
on fixing the Bylaws so they are working for the CC's, rather than being
manipulated.
And I think there should also be a committee working on establishing
the feasibility of finding a USGW Query system that is user friendly
and allows that the data created from those queries remains within the
Project.
I guess I would have to say, the single most important ingredient
to ANY Board Member being able to do the job they were elected
to do is to have the CC's that they represent involved with making
sure there is a consensus for that Representative to base their vote on.
If the CC's are not involved, then you will have only the Rep.
deciding to vote whatever they assume the CC's would want.
So all of you are encouraged to get involved. Voice your opinions,
and help, whom ever, you decide to vote for, do the best job for
you they can.
Thank You,
Ronald E. Eason, Candidate
